Lakelanders Sparkle at National Championships in Limerick

Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club were well represented on the National stage at the 2026 Irish Age Group National Championships at the University of Limerick Sports Arena last week. Two young Lakelanders’ swimmers joined almost 700 swimmers from over 100 clubs competing over four days of exciting competition, bringing home a National title to Enniskillen.

Sophie Hanna (14) lit up the Summer Nationals, delivering personal bests in five races and climbing the rankings with every swim.
Growing in confidence race by race, Sophie saved her best for last. In the 100m Freestyle, she exploded off the blocks and stormed to an outstanding 1.5-second PB, rounding off a fantastic championship in style.
A brilliant display of talent, determination and progress on the national stage.

Jakub Mikiewicz Lumayad (12) attended his first Irish National Age Group Championships in Limerick, where he competed in six events and progressed to four finals, enjoying an outstanding championship debut.
On Day 1, Jakub raced in the 200m Freestyle, producing a remarkable 25-second personal best. His incredible improvement earned him the silver medal and a Gold Performance Certificate for his outstanding time improvement. He later competed in the 100m Breaststroke, finishing 6th in the final.
Day 2 saw Jakub compete in the 50m Freestyle, where he finished as the second-fastest 12-year-old in the open age group.
Day 3 proved to be the highlight of the championships. In the 100m Freestyle final, Jakub delivered a superb swim, taking a further three seconds off his personal best to claim the gold medal and become Irish National Champion. He also competed in the 200m Breaststroke final that evening, finishing in 5th place.
On the final day of the championships, Jakub took on the demanding 200m Individual Medley, where he maintained his time to round off an exceptional first appearance at the national championships.
Competing at his first national championships, reaching four finals, winning a national title, earning silver in the 200m Freestyle, and collecting a Gold Performance Certificate made it a memorable and highly successful week for Jakub.
Club PRO Janette Mongan praised the swimmers’ efforts over the 4-day meet stating ‘This Championships has been a fantastic event for these swimmers. They have performed extremely well over the meet, improving their racing strategy, clocking new PBs, qualifying for several finals, securing medals, gaining great race experience and inspiring our young swimmers at home in Fermanagh.'
These swimmers have been training hard over the season, having completed our first year training in Omagh with grit and determination.Their success is testament to their dedication in the pool. The swimmers and their families are also grateful to our club sponsors the Lough Erne Resort, Western Cars Enniskillen and all the businesses that have helped us throughout the year.

With the 2025/2026 swimming season coming to an end, the finale for the competitive swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders is the Irish Summer National competitions. These competitions will take place across two meets in July with Age Group Championships will take place in Limerick, followed by Irish Summer National Youth & Senior Championships in Dublin. There is great excitement among the 7 local swimmers who have qualified to compete at these events.
A squad of 21 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders showcased their talent at the Swim Ulster Swim Festival 2026, held at Lagan Valley LeisurePlex, Lisburn, on Sunday 28 June, delivering a series of outstanding performances against strong competition.
The Lakelanders rose to the occasion in style, returning home with an impressive haul of medals and personal bests (PBs), highlighting the hard work, determination and commitment of these talented young athletes.
A squad of 20 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders ASC made a big splash at the Swim Belfast Invitational 2026, held at Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre, Belfast, on Sunday 7th June, delivering a series of outstanding performances against strong competition.
The Lakelanders rose to the occasion in style, returning home with an impressive haul of medals and personal bests (PBs), highlighting the hard work, determination, and commitment of these talented young athletes.
Banbridge Open Long Course Meet took place in Craigavon’s South Lakes Leisure Centre on Saturday the 6th of June.
A squad of 11 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers, along with Head Coach Fionna Orr, made their way to the fabulous South Lakes Leisure Centre long course (50m) swimming pool for the final club meet of the season for the older swimmers. This meet provided the final opportunity for competitive swimmers to qualify for Swim Ireland's Irish Summer National competitions. As a bonus Banbridge swimming club had extended their invitation to clubs from all over Ireland. The chance to achieve qualifying times and compete against the best in Ireland was too good to miss.
A squad of 9 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club attended the Ulster Age Group and Senior LC Championships at the Bangor Aurora Leisure Complex on 1st, 2nd & 3rd May. Competitors from across 32 clubs in Ulster met the tough qualification standards to take part in this key meet over three days, targeting Ulster podium spots, and those important Summer National qualification times.
Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club held their Spring Junior Gala on Sunday 26th April, an event aimed at younger swimmers. As the Lakelanders approach the first year complete at their temporary base at Omagh Leisure Centre and there was much excitement among the swimmers from the outset with 41 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders taking part. They were joined by competitors from eleven other Ulster swimming clubs. For many of the 8-14 year-old competitors, this would be one their first experiences of individual competition, that all important first step for every sportsperson.
Portadown ASC and Lurgan ASC hosted the South Lake Open Meet 2026 at South Lake Leisure Centre, Craigavon on Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th April. A total of 26 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers competed over the two day meet.
Saturday morning saw fantastic swimming by 11 of our younger athletes competing in a range of 25m races in the short course format. Many PBs were smashed with the young Lakelanders doing their club proud in the pool.
