Enniskillen Lakelanders Celebrate Season Successes

Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club held their annual End of Season Gala on Saturday 27th June. This marked the end of the club's 10 month season, and their first year training in Omagh Leisure Centre. The gala was an opportunity for swimmers across all training groups to compete side by side and a fun relay rounded off the event.

Throughout the Gala, everyone from beginners to parents were treated to an exhibition from top level athletes, with swimmers competing for medals, bragging rights and demonstrating the results of all their long hours of training and competing. The last few months have been hard on parents and swimmers alike, managing the long drives to Omagh but the fruit of the swimmers' and coaches' work was shown in the great swimming on the morning. The 12 individual events ran smoothly, with lots of smiling faces as medals were awarded.

The closing event was the much anticipated “Mother of all Relays”, with 60 participants from the club, including quite a few parents, taking to the water for five minutes of nip and tuck swimming as everyone battled for the podium spots.

On Saturday 20th June our members enjoyed an afternoon at Blue Green Yonder and its excellent facilities at Castle Island with Paddle Boarding, Archery, Jetty Jumping and much more to suit the swimming club. The event was finished off with a barbeque for swimmers and their families and the annual prizes were presented.

The Girls' Coaches' Award was presented to Holly Barkley in recognition of her excellent progress in competition and her dedication to training throughout the season.
The Boys' Coaches' Award went to Conal Walker following an outstanding year in the pool, during which he achieved several national qualifying times. Head Coach Fionna Orr wished Conal every success as he prepares to leave Lakelanders and begin college later this year.
The Committee Cup was awarded to Sarah Speer in recognition of her commitment to assisting with coaching younger swimmers and her continued dedication to travelling to Omagh twice each week to support the club, despite no longer training herself.
Awards were also presented to swimmers completing their first year with the club in Omagh, while certificates recognising individual achievements and Volunteer Now awards were presented to senior swimmers who have contributed to club activities throughout the season.
The club currently has six swimmers qualified for this summer's Irish National Championships, with Age Group swimmers competing in Limerick and Youth and Senior swimmers travelling to Dublin. To mark the occasion, the qualifiers were presented with new specially designed club T-shirts and zip tops, generously sponsored by The Lough Erne Resort. The club expressed its sincere gratitude to the resort for its continued support throughout the 2025/26 season.
Secretary Ruth Hill closed the ceremony by praising the dedication shown by swimmers and parents alike during a particularly challenging year. She paid tribute to the efforts of the club's volunteers, committee members and coaching team, whose commitment throughout the season enables Lakelanders to continue providing opportunities for local swimmers.
Special thanks were extended to Head Coach Fionna Orr and Coach Chelsey Weir for their outstanding work and commitment to the swimmers during the club's first full year training in Omagh.
