
Following a successful Irish National Division 2 Competition in Limerick for our up and coming younger swimmers, this week sees our Senior and TAG swimmers head for Dublin's National Aquatic Centre, sponsored by local companies: Belmore Court & Motel plus Western Brand NI limited, for the climax for the age group season – The Irish Summer National Finals. 11 Lakelanders put in the long hours for training and achieved the times needed at qualifying events throughout the 2018/19 season to reach this level – 6 of them swimming at National Finals for the first time. Together with their younger clubmates in last week's Div 2 finals, the sheer number of swimmers qualifying at this level shows the progress of the Lakelanders in recent years.
Local and national star Ellie McCartney returns to the Championships for the fifth time, four at the top level, with the hope of retaining one or more of her Irish National Titles. The 14-year-old is swimming a variety of strokes and distances including her favourites; 100m & 200m Breaststroke and the 200m Individual Medley. On top of this Ellie will swim the 100m Backcrawl & 400m IM for the first time at the championships as well as 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m Freestyle.
13-year-old Isobel Lannon makes her debut at the Championships where she will compete in 6 events. Izzy will swim in the 100m and 200m Breaststroke, 400m Freestyle, 200m Individual Medley, 100m and 200m Backstroke. Izzy has trained hard all year and is keen to show what she can do at this level.
Anna McDade, 12 – The youngest female swimmer attending, makes her debut at National level to compete in her favoured stroke in the 100m and 200m Breaststroke events with the determination to continue to improve her recent fantastic swimming form.
14-year-old Molly Johnston makes her debut at the Championships to compete in the 100m and 200m Breaststroke events. Molly is keen to continue her progress and show her improvement since last year's Division 2 event.
Emilie Reihill, 13 will swim at National level for the first time to compete in her favourite events the 50m and 100m Freestyle events. Emilie is looking to build on the experience gained at Ulster level this year with the determination to continue to improve her swimming form.
14-year-old Ciosa McConnell makes her debut at the National Finals to compete in the 100m and 200m Breaststroke events keen to continue her progress and is looking forward to putting her hard work at training in to practice in a great end of season competition.
Cora Rooney, 14 is the Lakelanders newest swimmer having only joined the club in the past month. However Cora comes with an illustrious competitive history including regional/national medals and a recent share in an Ulster junior relay record. At this year's finals Cora competes in the 200m & 100m Backstroke plus the 200m Freestyle and the 200m Medley races, watch this space.
The Lakelanders girls will also participate in 2 relay teams over the 5 day event, the Female 12-14 Freestyle and Medley Relays.
12-year-old Frank Buchanan makes his debut at the NAC as the youngest Fermanagh swimmer to compete in the National Finals. Frank will swim the 100m and 200m Backstroke events with the determination to continue his recent progress at Ulster level.
Ben Lynch, 16 has had a great season in 2018/19 with lots of podium finishes at Ulster level, he now travels to Dublin to contest his favourite stroke, Freestyle, at 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m lengths as well as the 200m Backstroke. The 16-year-old is keen to translate his Ulster achievements into National Success.
Lewis McCartney, 17. Lewis is in his prime for Age Group Swimming and will participate in 100m & 200m Breaststroke plus the 100 & 200m Backstroke. Having already hit Gold and Silver at Ulster level in 2019, Lewis is looking forward to another successful national competition.
16-year-old Oisin McManus will also return to the scene of his 2016 & 2018 1500m Freestyle Golds to contest 2 events the 200m & 400m Freestyle. Having missed a lot of the 18/19 season through illness Oisin is looking forward to his return to the pool and the buzz of the national finals.
Kealan McShea fresh from his medal success at the recent Mary Peter's event in Bangor, and with an all Ireland Surf Life Saving gold medal achieved in 2018, has entered four individual events: 100m Breaststroke, 100m Backstroke and 200m & 400m Individual Medley. The 17-year-old has seen his hard pay off in the 18/19 season and is hoping for more success over the Championship.
The Senior Boys will also compete in the 400m Freestyle and Medley relays seeking to regain their form from previous years when they achieved podium success.
Lakelanders Head Coach Aaron Rickhuss congratulated all swimmers on their success in qualifying saying, 'it's a pleasure to coach these athletes and to see them achieve at national qualification. Swimming is a sport that requires serious dedication and discipline and I'm thrilled to see this amount of Fermanagh swimmers who have what it takes to reach this level. We're all looking forward to a great event'.
Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club held their Autumn Junior Gala on Sunday 26th October, an event aimed at younger swimmers. This was the club’s first Gala in their new temporary base at Omagh Leisure Centre and there was much excitement among the swimmers from the outset with 37 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders taking part. They were joined by competitors from nine other Ulster swimming clubs. For many of the 8-14 year-old competitors, this would be one their first experiences of individual competition, that all important first step for every sportsperson.
11 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club made their way to the Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre in Belfast to compete at Swim Ulster's Aspiring Champions Meet; the first Gala of the season for swimmers aged 13 and over. The event was held over two days, 18th & 19th October. Coaches across Ulster use this gala to assess and monitor swimmers' skills, providing the scaffolding for the building blocks for success in the coming season.
All the work so far on skills and technique resulted in a slew of Swim Ulster Awards, personal bests and many top ten finishes for the Enniskillen Lakelanders.
Enniskillen Lakelanders kicked off the 2025/26 Swim Ulster competition season on Sunday when 17 junior members took part in the Future Challengers Meet 1 at the South Lakes Leisure Centre in Craigavon.
Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club were well represented on the National stage at the 2025 Irish Age Group National Championships at the University of Limerick Sports Arena last week. Six young Lakelanders’ swimmers joined almost 700 swimmers from over 100 clubs competing over four days of exciting competition.
With the 2024/2025 swimming season coming to an end, the finale for the competitive swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders is the Irish Summer National competitions. There is great excitement among the 6 Lakelanders swimmers who have qualified to compete at the Age Group Championships in Limerick.
Thursday 10th July sees the start of the 4 day Irish National Age Group Championships for swimmers aged 14 and under in the UL Sport Complex at the University of Limerick. Six Lakelanders have qualified to attend, two of whom are competing at this level for the first time.
Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club held their annual End of Season Gala last Saturday 28th June. This marks the end of the club's a very different 10 month season swimming in two counties across the FODC council. The gala is an opportunity for swimmers across all groups to compete side by side and a fun relay to round of the event.
Swim Ulster’s Swim Festival 2025 took place in Lisburn's Lagan Valley Leisureplex on Sunday the 22nd of June.
A squad of 18 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers, along with Head Coach Fionna Orr, made their way to Lisburn for the event.
Banbridge Open Long Course Meet took place in Craigavon’s South Lakes Leisure Centre on Saturday the 7th of June.
A squad of 13 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers, along with Head Coach Fionna Orr, made their way to the fabulous South Lakes Leisure Centre long course (50m) swimming pool for the final club meet of the season for the older swimmers. This meet provided the final opportunity for competitive swimmers to qualify for Swim Ireland's Irish Summer National competitions. As a bonus Banbridge swimming club had extended their invitation to clubs from all over Ireland. The chance to achieve qualifying times and compete against the best in Ireland was too good to miss.
A team of 39 young swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders ASC travelled to the Lagan Valley LeisurePlex in Lisburn last Friday to compete in the A final of this year’s Forest Feast AquaSprints League.
The event saw the young Lakelanders compete in a head to head battle against a strong squad from Lecale Swimming Club, while Swim Belfast and Olympia battled it out in the Division 4 B final, making the night a double event.
Seven Enniskillen Lakelanders' swimmers travelled to the Aurora Complex in Bangor to race at the Ian Wright Memorial Gala at the weekend.
