Lakelanders take the Lead in Lisburn

A squad of 33 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers attended the Swim Belfast Open Meet on Sunday the 15th of February in Lagan Valley Leisureplex, Lisburn. The gala was a great success for the Fermanagh swimmers who relished the opportunity to compete against swimmers from clubs across Ulster, Leinster & Connacht, returned home with numerous medals and personal best times.
Holly Barkley (15) had a fantastic day, achieving a 2 second PB in her 50m Freestyle, another 2 second PB in her 50m Breaststroke, a 2 and a half second PB in her 100m Backstroke and a 1 second PB in her 100m Freestyle.

Mollie Kate Brewster (11) thoroughly enjoyed her experience at the Swim Belfast Open Gala. Swimming in the Under 12 age group at only 10 years of age she was delighted to win a silver medal in her 50m Backstroke. She narrowly missed a podium spot in her 50m Butterfly finishing 4th. And was very happy to achieve a new PB in her 50m Breaststroke.
Poppy Brownlee (12) had a brilliant day in Lisburn, delivering an impressive performance. She gained new PBs in the 50m Butterfly, 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke events.

Harriet Cadden (10) achieved a gold medal and three personal bests. In her favoured Breaststroke event, she not only achieved a new PB but was the fastest girl in her 10 year age group, winning a gold medal. She continued on to achieve PBs in the 25m & 50m Freestyle events.
Aoibheann Cassidy (12) secured new PBs in both 25m Breaststroke and Freestyle.
Daire Cassidy (11) swam well in both 25m Breaststroke and Backstroke.

Darragh Collins (15) was in top sprinting form clinching silver medals in the 50m Breaststroke and Backstroke events, as well as a bronze medal in the 50m Freestyle. He came away with four qualification times for the Ulster Senior Long Course Championship later in the year.
Younger brother Conor Collins (13) produced strong performances, achieving PBs in the 50m Breaststroke and 100m Freestyle, dropping 3 seconds in the latter.
Younger sister Tara Collins (11) also impressed with PBs in both the 50m Freestyle and Breaststroke events.
Patrick Dineen (10) was delighted to clock a new PB in the 25m Backstroke. He also produced strong performances in the 25m and 50m Breaststroke races.

Eoghan Donnelly (12) took four seconds off his 25m Butterfly time to touch the wall first in an exciting bonus heat, securing third place overall among the 12-year-old boys. He achieved a total of three personal bests in the 25m Butterfly, 50m Butterfly, and 50m Freestyle, maintained his time in the 25m Backstroke, and finished his day with another strong swim in the 100m Backstroke.
Ollie Elliott (12) swam strong in three races, maintaining his times in Butterfly and Breaststroke and secured a new personal best in Freestyle to finish 4th in his heat.
Zena Elliott (11) swam a new PB in the 25m Freestyle and produced another strong swim in the 25m Butterfly.
Sophie Hanna (14) had 3 fantastic swims, achieving PBs in the 100m Backstroke and 100m Freestyle resulting in top ten finishes. Her swim of the day was in the 50m Freestyle, where Sophie placed 4th, just missing a medal by .06 of a second.
Anna May Hill (15) had a super day at the swim Belfast gala, securing a 6 second PB in the 50m Butterfly, a 5.38 second PB in the 100m Freestyle and a further PB in the 50m Freestyle.

Emily Irvine (11) delivered an outstanding performance, achieving two new personal bests in the 50m Backcrawl and 100m Freestyle. In both events, she ranked as the 3rd fastest 11-year-old, a remarkable accomplishment in a highly competitive field. She also produced a strong and consistent swim in the 100m Backcrawl, successfully maintaining her time.
Lauren Loizides (13) was delighted to achieve 4 new PBs, 7 seconds off her 100m Freestyle, 4 seconds off her 50m Butterfly, 3 seconds off her 100m Backstroke and 2 seconds off her 100m Breaststroke time.
Tiana Mbeulani (13) swam new PBs in the 50m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke and had a strong swim in the 100m Freestyle.
Erin McGrath (10) had a fantastic meet this weekend, delivering an outstanding performance in the pool. She achieved four Personal Bests across her events - 25m Breaststroke (placing an impressive 6th overall in her age group), 25m Butterfly, 25m Backstroke and the 25m Freestyle.
Maya McClintock (8) in only her second gala achieved a bronze medal in 25m Freestyle, improving her PB by more than 5 seconds. She also had a top 8 finish in the 25m Breaststroke with an improved PB.
James McSorley (13) was out today to smash every one of his personal bests and that he did! He took over 12.5 seconds off his first event which was the 200m Freestyle, in the 50m Butterfly he took nearly 7 seconds off his PB and also collected a new PB in the 100m Breaststroke.
His younger sister Ava McSorley (10) wasn’t going to let her older brother take all the limelight she swam very well in her first ever away gala and achieved new personal bests in both her 25m Breaststroke and 25m Freestyle races.
Russell Mikiewicz Lumayad (16) achieved sub 30 seconds for the first time in 50m Freestyle followed by a 3 second PB in 50m Butterfly. He then finished in the top 10 in 50m Breaststroke.

Younger brother Jakub Mikiewicz Lumayad (12) swam for the first time in the 200m Freestyle followed by 100m Backstroke, winning bronze medals in both events.

Ryan Mongan (16) won a bronze medal in the 50m Breaststroke, clocked a new PB in the 100m Breaststroke to place 4th overall and a further PB in the 200m Freestyle placed him 5th among the 16 year olds.
Anton Neal (15) placed 9th in both the 50m and 100m Breaststroke with a 3.5 second PB in the latter. He secured further PBs in the 50m & 100m Freestyle events.
Younger sister Ella Neal (14) competed in 5 races. She placed 5th in the 50m Backstroke with a great PB of 4 seconds. Ella also clocked new PBs in the 50m Butterfly, 50m & 100m Freestyle and the 100m Backstroke.
Younger sister Imogen Neal (11) achieved new PBs in all three races- 50m and 100m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke. She was delighted to race her first 100m Freestyle.
Kealan Rice (13) swam a 4 second PB in his 100m Breaststroke and produced another strong swim in the 100m Freestyle.
Milo Sheridan (12) had two strong swims and achieved a new PB in the 50m Freestyle where he dropped 4 seconds off his entry time. He also swam very well in the 50m Breaststroke maintaining his PB.
Alise Uzulina (9) was thrilled to achieve a five-second personal best in the 25m Breaststroke.
Older brother Haralds Uzulins (15) was delighted to achieve a top-10 finish and a personal best in both the 50m Butterfly and the 50m Breaststroke.
Finley Walker-Leonard (15) achieved top 10 finishes in his age group and two PBs in both the 200m Freestyle (taking 8 seconds off) and 50m Butterfly (taking 14 seconds off).
Club Gala Secretary Aideen Speer expressed her pride in all the swimmers’ efforts, numerous medals and PBs, the rewards of their dedicated training with Head Coach Fionna Orr, Coach Chelsey Weir and all the coaching team.
The smooth running of the event was a credit the swimmers and all the parent volunteers. The club express their gratitude to Lough Erne Resort and Western Cars Enniskillen for their continued support.

Local Swimmers Sparkle for their Schools as Past & Present Lakelanders lead the way for Fermanagh at Swim Ulster’s Senior Schools’ Cup & Championships in Bangor
The Swim Ulster Schools Cup & Championships 2026 took place on Friday 6th February at Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex Bangor. Over 1000 swimmers from more than 130 schools across the province of Ulster took part in the one day event. Three local schools were part of the action with 22 local swimmers taking part.
On Saturday 31st January, 13 young swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club competed in Round 3 of the Swim Ulster Future Challengers Series at Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre, Belfast. The meet attracted over 450 swimmers aged 10–14 from across Ulster, all taking on the more challenging events of Individual Medley (IM), Backstroke and Butterfly.
The Lakelanders squad rose to the occasion, relishing the opportunity to race against strong provincial competition while aiming for personal best performances.
6 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers competed at Swim Ulster’s Open Long Course Meet at the Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex in Bangor on the 24 & 25th January. Swimmers from clubs all over Ireland attended this exciting start to the Long Course season and the Lakelanders were eager to race their fellow athletes in the fabulous 10 lane 50m pool at the Aurora.
A strong squad of Lakelanders junior swimmers took part in Swim Ulster Future Challengers Meet 2 at Omagh Leisure Centre on Saturday.
Coach Chelsey Weir was there to support the young swimmers who brought home a substantial haul of medal award pins and a raft of new personal times.
6 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers made the journey to the Coral Leisure Centre Monaghan for Sliabh Beagh Swimming Club’s Winter Cluster Meet on 6th & 7th December.
Swim Ulster Primary Schools Cup and Championship was held at the Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex, Bangor on Saturday 29th November 2025. Excited for this opportunity to represent their schools, 22 swimmers across 10 local schools headed to Bangor determined to do the South-West proud and qualify for the All-Ireland Championships held in Dublin in March. Although a school competition, all the students attending are committed members of the Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club and mustered all their skills and training in competing against the best swimmers from schools across Ulster. A successful day saw 4 podium finishes and an amazing number of swimmers qualify for the All-Ireland primary school championship to be held at the National Aquatic Centre Dublin next year.
A squad of 10 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers attended Dungannon Swimming Club’s 40th Anniversary Gala on Sunday the 9th November at Dungannon Leisure Centre. The gala was a great success for the young swimmers who returned home with numerous personal bests.
Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club held their Autumn Junior Gala on Sunday 26th October, an event aimed at younger swimmers. This was the club’s first Gala in their new temporary base at Omagh Leisure Centre and there was much excitement among the swimmers from the outset with 37 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders taking part. They were joined by competitors from nine other Ulster swimming clubs. For many of the 8-14 year-old competitors, this would be one their first experiences of individual competition, that all important first step for every sportsperson.
11 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club made their way to the Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre in Belfast to compete at Swim Ulster's Aspiring Champions Meet; the first Gala of the season for swimmers aged 13 and over. The event was held over two days, 18th & 19th October. Coaches across Ulster use this gala to assess and monitor swimmers' skills, providing the scaffolding for the building blocks for success in the coming season.
All the work so far on skills and technique resulted in a slew of Swim Ulster Awards, personal bests and many top ten finishes for the Enniskillen Lakelanders.
