Lakelanders trio compete at Irish Winter Championships

Swim Ireland’s Irish Winter Championships got underway at the Sport Ireland National Aquatic Centre last weekend with over five hundred swimmers from seventy-seven clubs competing in the final national meet of 2023.

Three athletes from Enniskillen Lakelanders were excited to participate in this prestigious event and as per expectations they didn't disappoint, returning with personal best swims and high hopes for the long course season ahead building to the Irish Long Course finals in July 2024.

At her first Irish Short Course competition, Kate McDade (15) had strong swims in the 100m and 200m Breaststroke preliminary rounds to secure a place in the finals of both distances. With an impressive performance in the 100m final, Kate hit a new PB and was the first 15-year-old to hit the wall. In a very competitive 200m contest, Kate was the third 15-year-old to finish in the tightest of margins.

Ellie Dunlop (14) also competed in the 100m and 200m Breaststroke events. Ellie secured a new PB in the preliminary round of the 100m to progress to the finals, where another strong performance saw her lower her best time once again, finishing as the fifth fastest 14-year-old.

Also competing at her first Irish SC competition Hannah Lynch (14) had an amazing 12 second PB in the mixed 1500m Freestyle.  Hannah finished the fourth fasted 14-year-old girl in the gruelling event.

Gala Secretary Michelle Reihill praised the swimmers, the club are very proud of their achievements, they have shown our younger swimmers a shining example of what can be achieved from consistent hard work in training.
