
Medals and Personal Bests for the Lakelanders at Swim Ulster Development Gala in

The second Swim Ulster Development Gala of the 2018/2019 season took place last Sunday in Armagh. Enniskillen Lakelanders were well represented with 14 swimmers attending.
The Lakelanders were delighted with their overall medals from the competition, in all the swimmers returned home with 2 gold medals, 6 silver medals and 4 bronze medals as well as 10 Personal Best times.
Cora Cassidy started off the day with her favourite 200 freestyle fresh from Newry Open she was able to keep her current time and secured a silver medal
Straight into the back stroke with no time to waste Cora came in with a 3s PB which she was happy with.
After lunch the last of her races 100 freestyle saw Cora storm in with a fantastic gold medal and 3 Seconds PB.
James Mongan swam well in the 200m freestyle, 100m breaststroke and 50m butterfly in the 12 year old age group giving himself a benchmark for future events.
Haydn James, a highly successful meet for the 11 year old, who knocked a whopping 28 seconds off his 100m breaststroke time as well as finishing in 4th place and knocking an impressive 24 seconds off his 200m Freestyle time.
Niamh Cassidy (12) had a solid set of swims at the Development Gala after a week off sick. She managed a 3.19sec PB in the 50m butterfly, and also raced in the 200m freestyle and the 200m IM – her favourite.
Austin Cassidy (11) produced very consistent times in his 200m freestyle and 100m breaststroke at the development gala, showing increased fitness and conditioning. His 100m backstroke continues to be one of his least favourite events, and provides plenty of challenge for future events.
Molly Johnston started her second gala of the year competing in the 100m backstroke. Molly swam a 2 second pb of 1.27.94 coming second in her age group scooping a silver medal for her fantastic effort. Next up was 200 IM were Molly smashed her previous time by 5 seconds with a time of 3.14.36 to claim 3rd place and a bronze medal. 100 metre freestyle was next with a new pb in her final swim of the day. An overall fantastic performance from Molly edging towards her division 2 qualifying times.
Lauren Keaney met with great success in Armagh, she performed well in all her strokes. Lauren achieved a well deserved first place and a gold medal in her 100m Breaststroke. Emboldened by her success Lauren went on to take the silver medal her 100m Freestyle.
Luke Aiken maintained his form and 1st competed in 100m backstroke. He swam fantastically and achieved a PB of nearly 3 seconds. Next Luke swam 50m butterfly one of his favourites. He was seeded 3rd going into this swim and delighted to come home with a 2nd place medal. Last swim of the day was 100m free where he was up against some tough competition. He maintained a great time and was placed 6th in this event.
Ellie Dunlop (10) competing in her first Development gala swam an excellent technical race in the 100 IM to finish in third place, smashing her previous time with a PB of 6 seconds and confirming her qualifying times. Ellie now moives out Development Galas and up to Qualifying galas...watch this space!!!
Oliver Mooney (11) in his 1st outing since September acheived PBS in backstroke , Breast and Butterfly returning home with a Bronze medal.
Molly Rice (11) had a great day of swimming @ Armagh starting with the 100M Breaststroke, Molly achieved a 2 sec PB, securing 3rdposition and a Bronze Medal. In the 50M Fly, with a massive 9 sec PB Molly took Silver and just missed out on her qualification time by .92 of a second. Her toughest test of the day was the 200m Individual Medley, but finishing with a massive 20 sec PB left Molly delighted with her performance across the meet.
As the season really begins to hot up this was another successful outing for the Lakelanders Squad with great swims, lots of fun and lots of medals. Representing the Lakelanders club Committee Sara Lannon paid tribute to the coaching staff saying, 'we're very proud of our young swimmers starting out on their competitive journey. This success is a credit not just to the swimmers but also our fabulous coaches for their efforts in preparing them for events such as these'.
A strong squad of Lakelanders junior swimmers took part in Swim Ulster Future Challengers Meet 2 at Omagh Leisure Centre on Saturday.
Coach Chelsey Weir was there to support the young swimmers who brought home a substantial haul of medal award pins and a raft of new personal times.
6 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers made the journey to the Coral Leisure Centre Monaghan for Sliabh Beagh Swimming Club’s Winter Cluster Meet on 6th & 7th December.
Swim Ulster Primary Schools Cup and Championship was held at the Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex, Bangor on Saturday 29th November 2025. Excited for this opportunity to represent their schools, 22 swimmers across 10 local schools headed to Bangor determined to do the South-West proud and qualify for the All-Ireland Championships held in Dublin in March. Although a school competition, all the students attending are committed members of the Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club and mustered all their skills and training in competing against the best swimmers from schools across Ulster. A successful day saw 4 podium finishes and an amazing number of swimmers qualify for the All-Ireland primary school championship to be held at the National Aquatic Centre Dublin next year.
A squad of 10 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers attended Dungannon Swimming Club’s 40th Anniversary Gala on Sunday the 9th November at Dungannon Leisure Centre. The gala was a great success for the young swimmers who returned home with numerous personal bests.
Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club held their Autumn Junior Gala on Sunday 26th October, an event aimed at younger swimmers. This was the club’s first Gala in their new temporary base at Omagh Leisure Centre and there was much excitement among the swimmers from the outset with 37 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders taking part. They were joined by competitors from nine other Ulster swimming clubs. For many of the 8-14 year-old competitors, this would be one their first experiences of individual competition, that all important first step for every sportsperson.
11 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club made their way to the Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre in Belfast to compete at Swim Ulster's Aspiring Champions Meet; the first Gala of the season for swimmers aged 13 and over. The event was held over two days, 18th & 19th October. Coaches across Ulster use this gala to assess and monitor swimmers' skills, providing the scaffolding for the building blocks for success in the coming season.
All the work so far on skills and technique resulted in a slew of Swim Ulster Awards, personal bests and many top ten finishes for the Enniskillen Lakelanders.
Enniskillen Lakelanders kicked off the 2025/26 Swim Ulster competition season on Sunday when 17 junior members took part in the Future Challengers Meet 1 at the South Lakes Leisure Centre in Craigavon.
Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club were well represented on the National stage at the 2025 Irish Age Group National Championships at the University of Limerick Sports Arena last week. Six young Lakelanders’ swimmers joined almost 700 swimmers from over 100 clubs competing over four days of exciting competition.
With the 2024/2025 swimming season coming to an end, the finale for the competitive swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders is the Irish Summer National competitions. There is great excitement among the 6 Lakelanders swimmers who have qualified to compete at the Age Group Championships in Limerick.
Thursday 10th July sees the start of the 4 day Irish National Age Group Championships for swimmers aged 14 and under in the UL Sport Complex at the University of Limerick. Six Lakelanders have qualified to attend, two of whom are competing at this level for the first time.
Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club held their annual End of Season Gala last Saturday 28th June. This marks the end of the club's a very different 10 month season swimming in two counties across the FODC council. The gala is an opportunity for swimmers across all groups to compete side by side and a fun relay to round of the event.
