Local Swimmers Sparkle for their Schools as Past & Present Lakelanders lead the way for Fermanagh at Swim Ulster’s Senior Schools’ Cup & Championships in Bangor
The Swim Ulster Schools Cup & Championships 2026 took place on Friday 6th February at Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex Bangor. Over 1000 swimmers from more than 130 schools across the province of Ulster took part in the one day event. Three local schools were part of the action with 22 local swimmers taking part.
Enniskillen Royal Grammar School
Charles Armstrong (13) impressed with a new PB in the 100m Breaststroke and followed it with a strong, determined swim in the 100m Butterfly, earning a well deserved third place in his heat.
Holly Barkley (14) had 2 very strong swims, achieving a 6 second PB in her 100m Breaststroke and a 3 second PB in her 100m Freestyle.
Ellie Dunlop (17) competed in the 17-19 age group at the Swim Ulster Senior Schools Cup and Championships, winning silver in the 100m Breaststroke and finishing 7th with a PB in the 200m Individual Medley. While studying for her AS -levels, Ellie travels six days a week to Craigavon for training, showing incredible dedication. This achievement has also earned Ellie selection to represent Enniskillen Royal Grammar School as part of the Ulster Schools Interprovincial team. She will compete at the National Irish Schools Interprovincial championships this March at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin.
April Huang (12) produced strong swims in both 100m Butterfly and 100m Freestyle.
Lauren Loizides (14) was proud to compete for her school for the first time and enjoyed her first long course competition. She was delighted to achieve a new PB in the 100m Backstroke, taking 3 seconds off, and swam well in the 100m Breaststroke event.
James McSorley (12) swam very well, maintaining his entry time in the 100m Butterfly and securing a new PB in the 100m Freestyle, dropping a second off his entry time.
Jakub Mikiewicz Lumayad (12) had a brilliant swim in 100m Freestyle hitting the wall in 1stplace among the 12 year olds, qualifying for Irish summer national age group championships in Limerick in this event. He produced another strong swim in very challenging 200m IM race, finishing 5th in his age group.
Older brother Russell Mikiewicz Lumayad (16) had a strong swim in 100m Butterfly taking 3 seconds off his PB to place in the top 10 in his age group. He went on to secure another new PB in the 100m Freestyle, shaving almost 4 seconds off his entry time.
Ryan Mongan (16) cut a whopping 7 seconds off his PB in the 100m Breaststroke and put in another strong performance in the 200m Individual Medley.
Erin Salcedo (15) enjoyed a successful performance in the 100m Freestyle taking 7.95 seconds off her personal best and also produced a strong swim in 200m Individual Medley.
Younger sister Keira Salcedo (13) had an excellent swim in 100m Freestyle knocking an amazing 27 seconds off her entry time. She swam another great PB in the 100m Breaststroke, cutting 4 seconds off her time.
Haralds Uzulins (15) produced strong swims in both the 100m Breaststroke and 100m Freestyle events.
Finley Walker Leonard (15) put in strong performances in the 100m Backstroke and 100m Freestyle races.
Mount Lourdes Grammar School
Sophie Hanna (14) had a phenomenal start to the gala placing 18th out of 112 swimmers in the 100m back crawl. She went on to compete in a very exciting 200m IM.
Ella Neal (13) was delighted to be back competing after injury. She had two super races with great PBs in both 100m Backstroke & 100m Freestyle.
Natalie Swidani (13) enjoyed her first Swim Ulster Senior Schools Cup & Championships 2026 in Bangor. She claimed a new PB in the 100m Freestyle, taking 1 second off her entry time. She went on to produce another strong swim in the 200m Individual Medley.
St Michael’s College
Darragh Collins (15) delivered standout performances, setting personal bests in both the 100m Backstroke and 100m Freestyle, the latter earning him 8th place in his age group. His highlight of the meet came in the Senior 200m Freestyle Relay, where he completed the second 50m leg in a new PB of 26.24 seconds.
His younger brother, Conor Collins (12), embraced the challenge of racing in a 50m pool during the 100m Breaststroke and Freestyle events. He was thrilled to secure a Top 15 finish in his age group and set a new personal best in the Breaststroke.
Eoghan Donnelly (12) made his debut in a 50m pool while representing his school, competing in the 100m Backstroke, the 100m Freestyle, and swimming the third leg of the 200m Freestyle relay. His performances reflected a strong beginning to the year.
Jamie Lannon (18) competing in the Senior (17–19) age group, placed 9th in the 100m Freestyle and won silver in the 100m Breaststroke, qualifying to represent Ulster at the Schools Interprovincial Championships in Dublin later this year.
Luke Lannon (15) competing in the Intermediate (15–16) age group, swam the 100m Backstroke and 100m Breaststroke, achieving a 4-second personal best.
Anton Neal (15) had 3 great swims at Ulster schools championships. Anton did superb in both 100m Freestyle and 100m Breaststroke with PBs in both, finishing off with a fun filled relay.
Daithi Owens (13) swam well in both the 100m Breaststroke and Freestyle.
Conal Walker (18) produced strong swims in both of his events, gaining new PBs in 100m breaststroke and 200m IM
St Michael’s Relay Teams
Several boys swam up for relay events, with the Intermediate Boys Freestyle Relay finishing 12th overall and the Senior Boys Freestyle Relay placing 5th overall.
Huge congratulations to all these dedicated young athletes who now travel to Omagh and Craigavon to access training facilities since the Lakeland Forum is being redeveloped.

A squad of 33 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers attended the Swim Belfast Open Meet on Sunday the 15th of February in Lagan Valley Leisureplex, Lisburn. On Saturday 31st January, 13 young swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club competed in Round 3 of the Swim Ulster Future Challengers Series at Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre, Belfast. The meet attracted over 450 swimmers aged 10–14 from across Ulster, all taking on the more challenging events of Individual Medley (IM), Backstroke and Butterfly.

Swim Ulster Primary Schools Cup and Championship was held at the Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex, Bangor on Saturday 29th November 2025. Excited for this opportunity to represent their schools, 22 swimmers across 10 local schools headed to Bangor determined to do the South-West proud and qualify for the All-Ireland Championships held in Dublin in March. Although a school competition, all the students attending are committed members of the Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club and mustered all their skills and training in competing against the best swimmers from schools across Ulster. Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club held their Autumn Junior Gala on Sunday 26th October, an event aimed at younger swimmers. This was the club’s first Gala in their new temporary base at Omagh Leisure Centre and there was much excitement among the swimmers from the outset with 37 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders taking part. They were joined by competitors from nine other Ulster swimming clubs. 11 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club made their way to the Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre in Belfast to compete at Swim Ulster's Aspiring Champions Meet; the first Gala of the season for swimmers aged 13 and over. The event was held over two days, 18th & 19th October. Coaches across Ulster use this gala to assess and monitor swimmers' skills, providing the scaffolding for the building blocks for success in the coming season.
All the work so far on skills and technique resulted in a slew of Swim Ulster Awards, personal bests and many top ten finishes for the Enniskillen Lakelanders.
