A small team of seven Enniskillen Lakelanders made the now familiar journey to Bangor Aurora for the Bangor Open swim meet on Sunday afternoon. With over 37 clubs and 490 swimmers taking part the young Lakelanders were showing no nerves and were keen to show their talents and progression. This meet provided our swimmers with a great opportunity to gain Long Course (LC) experience in the 50m pool to target Swim Ireland National Division 1&2 entry times as well as a last chance to secure entry times for the upcoming Ulster Long Course Championship.

Emilie Reihill (13) had another successful afternoon swimming. First up for Emilie, her favourite 100m Freestyle, the longest event of the day with 247 swimmers across 25 heats. Emilie showed her continuing improvement in this stroke with a PB of 1.13 seconds and a 4th place finish. She followed this up with the 100m Breaststroke where she was pleased to achieve a top 10 finish. Then in her final race, the 100m Backstroke, Emilie showed her recent hard work paying off with an 8th place finish and a 0.58 second PB. Emilie gained great experience which she will put to good use in three weeks at the Ulster Long Course Championships.

12yr old Izzy Lannon had a successful weekend, performing a new PB of 1.08.42 and winning the bronze in the 100m Freestyle. Isobel went on achieve her 5th division 1 time of the season in the 100m Backstroke and won a well deserved gold medal.

Cíosa McConnell participated in 2 events in her second experience in long course swimming.  She achieved a bronze medal, a PB and a Division 1 time in the 100m Breaststroke.  She went on to swim a strong 200 IM.  Cíosa is looking forward to gaining more experience in long course swimming over the Easter period.

The youngest Lakelander to compete was Ellie Dunlop (10) who despite illness on the day showed her mettle to swim a fantastic race in the 100m Breaststroke gaining a gold medal.

Hayden James (12) had a great afternoon swimming in his favourite pool. Having swam at a Short Course event in Sliabh Beagh the previous day Hayden adjusted quickly and had produced impressive results - knocking 4.66 seconds off his 100m Freestyle time, 5.01 seconds off his 100m Breaststroke and a whopping 14.58 seconds off his 100m Backstroke time. These results prove that all his hard work and training with Coach Aaron Rickhuss is truly paying off.

Anna Mc Dade (12), showed continuing improvement across three events, achieving a 2.5 Sec PB and 7th place in 100m Freestyle, a PB and 6th place in 100m Backstroke, and finishing off the afternoon with an ever improving 200IM, winning a third place medal with another PB.
Anna's younger sister Kate (10) was in Bangor for her first long course event and left with valuable experience across three events ,with her best performance being a top ten finish in 100m breaststroke.

All the Lakelanders were pleased with their performances at this busy event, showing their continued progression and dedication at training paying off. Club Gala Secretary Noel Mc Manus paid tribute to the swimmers saying, 'this is a fantastic weekend's swimming for our younger hopefuls, the amount of PBs and Irish Div1/2 times show not just the fabulous efforts by our swimmers but the skilful tutoring from the Lakelanders coaching team.'
