Enniskillen Lakelanders on top form at first Long Course meet of the season
28 members of the Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club competed in Sunday’s Portadown Long Course Meet held at the South Lakes Leisure complex, Craigavon. This marked the beginning of the Long Course season for these swimmers who enjoyed the opportunity to compete in a 50m pool and for some it was a chance to secure qualification times for upcoming Summer National events.
Ryan Aiken (14), swam great swims with a 3 second PB in 50m Breaststroke, 2 second PB in 50m Freestyle and matching his previous PB in the difficult 50m Butterfly.
Rory Aiken (14), came away very pleased with his swims. He had a fantastic 6 sec pb in 50m free, 3 sec pb in 50mButterfly and very glad to match his times in his least favourite 50m breast.
Both boys coming away with great learning after their 1st attempt at long course swimming.
Holly Barkley (12) did extremely well coming home with a PB in each of her 3 swims. Holly knocked 1 sec off her backcrawl, 4 secs off her breaststroke and an impressive 6 secs off her front crawl.
Josh Cassidy (13) swam three races for his first long course gala;
50 breast, 50 back crawl and 50 freestyle, gaining PBs in all races and enjoying the experience on the day.
Kiril Chursin (17) picked up PBs in 100m Freestyle, 50m Breaststroke, 50m Butterfly and 50m Freestyle in addition to top 10 finishes in each. He also swam well in the 100m Breaststroke event.
Darragh Collins (12) enjoyed his first taste of long course swimming. He swam in the 50m Breaststroke, Backstroke and Freestyle races coming away with 2 PBs. Darragh was most pleased with his breaststroke performance placing in the top 5 in his age group.
Ellie Dunlop (14) was delighted with her performance at the long course gala in Portadown. In the 50m Breaststroke Ellie finished in 1st place with a 4.61s pb. Ellie followed this up with strong swims in the 100m Butterfly and 100m Breaststroke finishing in 2nd place in both. Ellie secured qualification times for the Irish summer Nationals in all her events.
Hayden James (16) had a very successful meet. First up was the 100m Freestyle where he finished in 8th place overall with a 1.42 second PB and an Irish Summer National qualifying time. Hayden then knocked 2.90 seconds off his 100m Butterfly race, placing 5th overall and earning his 2nd Irish National qualifying time.
Last up was the 50m Butterfly and the 50m Freestyle finishing 9th and 7th, earning pbs for both events and a qualifying time for the 50m Freestyle.
Katie James (13) picked up PBs in all of her events; 50m Breaststroke, 50m Backstroke and 50m Freestyle.
Jamie Lannon (15) was very happy to be with PB in all his 3events.
A very determined and resilient competitor, Jamie did not fail to impress winning gold in the 100m breaststroke and silver in both the 50m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle.
Jamie now qualifies to compete at Irish summer youth and senior championship and the 2023 Irish Open Championship in April.
Luke Lannon (12) competed in 3 events in his first-ever long course competition in the 13 year old age group.
Mustering up all his determination Luke was delighted to achieve PBs in both the 50m Freestyleand 100m Breaststroke and finish the top 6 in his races.
A skilful execution of the 100m back crawl saw Luke finishing 2 seconds faster than the upper limit qualifying time for Irish summer age group nationals. Luke was thrilled to finish 4th overall in this age group and excited for summer nationals.
Vita Lavrenova (16) gained new PBs in 100m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly and 50m Freestyle.
Myleene Leonard (12) had a successful day achieving 4 PBs and knocking over 20 seconds off her times. Myleene was most impressed with her improvement in the 100m Backstroke, knocking nearly 14 seconds off her previous time.
Hannah Lynch (13) competed in 3 events and was delighted to achieve 3 new PBs. Hannah finished in second place in the 100m Freestyle and 4th place in both the 100m and 50m Backstroke.
Holly McCabe (12) had a great day at her first competitive experience in a 50m pool. She swam two races, the 50m Backstroke and the 50m Freestyle, picking up PBs in each.
Martha McCreesh (12) took gold in the 50m Backstroke and came a very respectable 4th in the 50m Butterfly. 100m swims in the Breaststroke and Freestyle brought top 10 finishes as well.
Kate McDade (15) swimming in the highly competitive 15-16 year old age group, impressed with PBs across three events. Significantly improving on her seed positions, she was the fastest 15 year old in the 50m Breaststroke, achieving an Irish Open time. A top 10 ten finish in 100m Freestyle, and 2nd place in 100m Breaststroke in 15 year old age group secured 2 summer national times to total 5 qualifying times so early in the season is an encouraging start to LC competition.
Russell Mikiewicz Lumayad (13) took part in 50m Butterfly, 50mBackstroke and 50m Freestyle, achieving PBs in all three.
Jessica Millar (12) picked up three personal bests. These were her first ever events swimming in a 50m pool. Jessica was particularly happy when she took over 9 seconds off her 50m Freestyle time, as she's been really working on improving this stroke. She also gained personal bests in both of her other events; 50m Breaststroke and 50m Backstroke. This was a great experience for her and she hopes to swim in longer events next time.
James Mongan (16) was delighted to see his hard work in training pay off with PBs in all his events; 50m & 100m Freestyle, 50m & 100m Breaststroke and 50m Backstroke. The high point was hitting a consideration time in 100m Backstroke for Summer Nationals.
Younger brother Ryan Mongan (13) enjoyed his first Long Course experience, maintaining his PB in 100m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke and knocking time off his 100m Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle times.
Ava Neal (12), had a great day, swimming four races with an impressive personal best of 6.29s improvement in 100m Freestyle. Ava picked up another two personal bests in both 100m Breaststroke & 50m Freestyle.
Niamh O’Donnell (15) achieved three PBs in 100m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke and 50m Freestyle with experience gained in a strong swim in 100m Backstroke, thoroughly enjoying the well run gala.
Tori Reid (13) took 3 seconds off her 50m Breaststroke time, 2 seconds off her 50m Backstroke time and almost 5 seconds off her 50m Freestyle time, coming first in her heat and narrowly missing out on a third place overall.
Erin Salcedo (13) picked up PBs in 100m Freestyle, 50m Breaststroke along with a top ten finish and further PBs in 100m Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle.
Sarah Speer (13) had a very successful day at her first long course competition with a PB in both the 50m and 100m Breaststroke. The highlight of the day for Sarah was her 8 second PB in her 100 m Freestyle.
Younger sister Emma (11) also had a successful day opening with a 8.37 PB in her 100m Freestyle, a fifth place finish and a 2 second PB in her 50m Breaststroke. Emma finished off the day with a 2 second PB in her 100m Breaststroke and a silver medal.
Conal Walker (15) gained valuable experience, managing to secure PBs in 100m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke and 50m Butterfly. He also had a good steady race in 100m Breaststroke.
Club Chairperson Aideen Speer expressed her delight in seeing such a large number of Lakelanders participating in this challenging 50m Long Course Gala saying it demonstrated fantastic potential within the club for a very bright season ahead.
The club are busy preparing for their Spring Junior Gala planned for Sunday 5thMarch at the Lakeland Forum Enniskillen. This will be a wonderful opportunity for younger swimmers to gain competition experience and we look forward to seeing young swimmers coming to Enniskillen to take part from surrounding clubs across the region.

11 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers travelled to the Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex, Bangor to compete in Round 2 of Swim Ulster’s ‘Aspiring Champions’ Meet Series on 14th & 15th March. This spectacular 50m pool was the perfect venue for the many challenging events the Fermanagh swimmers were eager to dive into over the weekend.
A squad of 33 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers attended the Swim Belfast Open Meet on Sunday the 15th of February in Lagan Valley Leisureplex, Lisburn. The gala was a great success for the Fermanagh swimmers who relished the opportunity to compete against swimmers from clubs across Ulster, Leinster & Connacht, returned home with numerous medals and personal best times.
Local Swimmers Sparkle for their Schools as Past & Present Lakelanders lead the way for Fermanagh at Swim Ulster’s Senior Schools’ Cup & Championships in Bangor
The Swim Ulster Schools Cup & Championships 2026 took place on Friday 6th February at Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex Bangor. Over 1000 swimmers from more than 130 schools across the province of Ulster took part in the one day event. Three local schools were part of the action with 22 local swimmers taking part.
On Saturday 31st January, 13 young swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club competed in Round 3 of the Swim Ulster Future Challengers Series at Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre, Belfast. The meet attracted over 450 swimmers aged 10–14 from across Ulster, all taking on the more challenging events of Individual Medley (IM), Backstroke and Butterfly.
The Lakelanders squad rose to the occasion, relishing the opportunity to race against strong provincial competition while aiming for personal best performances.
6 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers competed at Swim Ulster’s Open Long Course Meet at the Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex in Bangor on the 24 & 25th January. Swimmers from clubs all over Ireland attended this exciting start to the Long Course season and the Lakelanders were eager to race their fellow athletes in the fabulous 10 lane 50m pool at the Aurora.
A strong squad of Lakelanders junior swimmers took part in Swim Ulster Future Challengers Meet 2 at Omagh Leisure Centre on Saturday.
Coach Chelsey Weir was there to support the young swimmers who brought home a substantial haul of medal award pins and a raft of new personal times.
6 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers made the journey to the Coral Leisure Centre Monaghan for Sliabh Beagh Swimming Club’s Winter Cluster Meet on 6th & 7th December.
Swim Ulster Primary Schools Cup and Championship was held at the Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex, Bangor on Saturday 29th November 2025. Excited for this opportunity to represent their schools, 22 swimmers across 10 local schools headed to Bangor determined to do the South-West proud and qualify for the All-Ireland Championships held in Dublin in March. Although a school competition, all the students attending are committed members of the Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club and mustered all their skills and training in competing against the best swimmers from schools across Ulster. A successful day saw 4 podium finishes and an amazing number of swimmers qualify for the All-Ireland primary school championship to be held at the National Aquatic Centre Dublin next year.
A squad of 10 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers attended Dungannon Swimming Club’s 40th Anniversary Gala on Sunday the 9th November at Dungannon Leisure Centre. The gala was a great success for the young swimmers who returned home with numerous personal bests.
Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club held their Autumn Junior Gala on Sunday 26th October, an event aimed at younger swimmers. This was the club’s first Gala in their new temporary base at Omagh Leisure Centre and there was much excitement among the swimmers from the outset with 37 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders taking part. They were joined by competitors from nine other Ulster swimming clubs. For many of the 8-14 year-old competitors, this would be one their first experiences of individual competition, that all important first step for every sportsperson.
