Enniskillen Lakelanders will be well represented at Summer National Competitions!

With the 2022/2023 swimming season coming to an end, the finale for the competitive swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders is the Irish Summer National competitions. These competitions will take place across two meets in July with Age Group Championships will take place in Limerick, followed by Irish Summer National Youth & Senior Championships in Dublin. There is great excitement among the 15 local swimmers who have qualified to compete at these events.

 

Thursday  6th July sees the start of the 4 day Irish National Age Group Championships for swimmers aged 14 and under in the UL Sport Complex at the University of Limerick.  Five Lakelanders have qualified to attend, three of whom are competing at this level for the first time alongside two of our more experienced swimmers.

 

Ellie Dunlop (14) has recently been awarded the FODC award for achievement in sport, having participated at several national and international events this season. She has qualified for 100m and 200m Breaststroke and 200 Individual Medley.

 

Hannah Lynch (14) has a very busy few days ahead as she will swim in the 100m & 200m Backstroke and 50m, 100m, 400m, 800m & 1500m Freestyle events.

 

Martha McCreesh (12) will compete in the 100m Breaststroke event.

 

Ava Neal (13), fresh from captaining this year’s Aquasprint squad, has qualified to compete in the 100m & 200m Breaststroke, 50m, 100m & 200m Freestyle and the 200m Backstroke races.

 

Emma Speer (12) looks forward to competing in the 200m Breaststroke race.

 

Erin Salcedo (13) and Conal Walker (14) have also qualified for events however are unable to attend.

 

The Irish Youth and Senior Summer National Championships 2023 competition follows two weeks later with eight Lakelanders achieving the standards required to compete in the National Aquatic Centre, Dublin.

 

Kiril Chursin (17) has qualified to race in four events; 50m & 100m Breaststroke and 50m & 100m Freestyle.

 

Vita Lavrenova (16) will compete in the 50m Freestyle event.

 

Anna McDade (17), having raced in several National events throughout the season looks forward to competing in the 50m, 100m & 200m Breaststroke, 50m & 100m Freestyle and the 200m Individual Medley events.

 

Younger sister Kate McDade (15) also has a busy competition schedule ahead with entries for 50m, 100m & 200m Breaststroke, 50m, 100m, 200m & 800m Freestyle and the 200m Individual Medley.

 

James Mongan (16) is looking forward to competing in the 100m & 200m Backstroke and the 200m Breaststroke races.

 

Niamh O’Donnell (15) has qualified to race in the 50m Freestyle and the 100m Backstroke events.

 

Emilie Reihill (17) is competing across three events; 50m, 100m and 200m Freestyle.

 

National Squad member Cora Rooney (18) , who is coached by Sinead Donagher, will be competing across 5 events, the 50m, 100m and 200m Backstroke alongside the 50m Butterfly & 50m Freestyle.

 

Club Chairperson Aideen Speer commended all the swimmers on their hard work and dedication to their sport and hoped that they would be rewarded with much fruit for their labour. The Lakelanders Committee would also like to thank the coaching team led by Ben Wiffen for their outstanding work with the swimmers and the Lough Erne Resort for their generous support of the Club throughout the year, culminating in supporting the National Squad with sponsorship of the National Kit.
