Fermanagh Swimmers Shine for their schools at Ulster Schools Championships

Swim Ulster Primary Schools Cup and Championship was held in the Lagan Valley Leisureplex in Lisburn on Saturday 1st March. Excited for this opportunity to represent their schools, 28 swimmers aged 12 and under across 8 local schools headed to Lisburn, determined to do the Southwest proud and qualify for the All-Ireland Championships held in Dublin in March. Although a school competition, all the students attending are committed members of the Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club and mustered all their skills and training in competing against the best swimmers from schools across Ulster. A successful day saw 5 podium finishes and an amazing number of swimmers qualify for the All-Ireland primary school championship to be held at the National Aquatic Centre Dublin later this month.
Enniskillen Integrated PS

Imogen Neal (9) placed 12th in the 50m Freestyle with a new PB of 7seconds, qualifying for Irish Minor Schools Championships in Dublin. She collected another PB in the 50m Breaststroke, placing 12th also.
Enniskillen Model PS

Poppy Brownlee (10) had two strong swims in the 50m Backstroke and 50m Freestyle, dropping 4 seconds off her PB in the Freestyle.
Harriet Cadden (9) made a splash in her competitive swimming debut, knocking almost 8 seconds off her 50m Breaststroke to hit the wall well under the required time to qualify for the National Championship.
Patrick Dineen (9) made his first outing at a Swim Ulster event with two great swims in the 50m Breaststroke and 50m Backstroke events.
Ollie Elliott (10) impressed, knocking 6 seconds off his PB in the 50m Breaststroke and almost 3 seconds off his PB in the 50m Freestyle to qualify for the National Championships in the latter event.
April Huang (11) also achieved new PBs in the 50m freestyle and butterfly strokes, qualifying for the IMS Champs in both events
Ellie Kennedy (10) had a speedy swim in the morning’s 50m Breaststroke and put her skills to good use again in the afternoon’s Medley and Freestyle relay events.
Maia Rolston McAuliffe (10) had strong individual swims, achieving new PBs in the competitive 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke races to qualify for the IMS Champs in both events.
The Model PS girls’ team of Poppy Brownlee, Ellie Kennedy, Maia Rolston-McAuliffe and April Huang rounded off their day having fun competing in the 200m Freestyle and Medley relays against primary school teams from across the province.
Enniskillen Royal Grammar School

Charles Armstrong (12) swam well in both the 50m Breaststroke and Butterfly races, maintaining his entry times, coming 7th overall in Breaststroke in the age 12 category.

Mollie Kate Brewster (10) hit the wall first in the 50m Backstroke, collecting a gold medal along with a new PB. She followed up with another new PB in the 50m Butterfly, landing her on the podium again winning a silver medal. She has qualified to compete at the National Championships in Dublin in both events.
Ella Rose Carron (10) Maintained her entry times in both the 50m Breaststroke and Freestyle.

Michael Carron (12) produced two speedy swims to qualify for the National Championships in Dublin in the 50m Butterfly and the 100m Individual Medley races.
Emily Irvine (9) qualified for the Irish Minor School Championships in the 50m Backstroke. She achieved a PB time in the 50m Freestyle race.

Joseph McKenna (10) swam a new PB to claim the top spot among the 10 year olds in the 50m Breaststroke, bringing a gold medal back to Enniskillen. He followed up with another great PB in the 50m Freestyle to secure two qualifications for the National Championships in Dublin.
Elin O’Donohue (10) secured a new PB in the 50m Backstroke and maintained her entry time in the 50m Freestyle. The highlight of the day was qualifying for the Irish Minor Schools Championships in both events.
Isabella Rasdale (10) competing at her first swimming gala, swam really well in both the 50m Backstroke and Freestyle.

The Female 9-10 200m Medley and Freestyle Relays were the last events of the session, and they were certainly worth the wait. The Holy Trinity relay team, consisting of Emily Irvine, Ella-Rose Carron, Mollie Kate Brewster, and Elin O’Donohue claimed gold in the Medley Relay winning convincingly by nearly 10 seconds. They followed this up with a silver medal in the Freestyle Relay. The girls are thrilled to be representing Holy Trinity Primary School at the Irish Minor Schools Championships in Dublin on March 30th.
Mount Lourdes Grammar School

Ella Neal (12) qualified for the National Championships in the 50m Freestyle and the 100m Individual Medley, collecting new PBs in both races.
Natalie Swidani (12) qualified for the National Championships in both 50m Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle, achieving a new PB in the latter.
St Mary’s PS Maguiresbridge
Maria Clifford (11) swam well in both the 50m Freestyle and Breaststroke, collecting new PBs in both events.
St Patrick’s PS Mullnaskea

Conor Collins (11) clinched an impressive 5 second PB in the 50m Freestyle, narrowly missing out on Irish Minors Schools qualification. He went on to secure another PB in the 50m Backstroke.
Younger sister Tara Collins (9) was delighted to achieve a new PB in the 50m Breaststroke, followed by another strong swim in the 50m Backstroke.
Finn Coyle (10) had an excellent day at the primary schools championships, qualifying for Irish Minor Schools by taking over 3 seconds off his 50m Freestyle PB. He also maintained his 50m Breaststroke time and thoroughly enjoyed the day.
Niamh Howell (11) secured a new PB in the 50m Breaststroke. She also had a strong swim in the 50m Backstroke and qualified for the Irish National Championships in both events.
Orlaith Howell (9) collected a new PB in the 50m Backstroke, qualifying for the National Championships. She followed up with another great performance in the 50m Butterfly, finishing in the top 5.
Jakub Mikievicz Lumayad (11) performed extremely well in his events. He achieved a 2 second PB in 50m Breaststroke, placing 4th. He maintained his time in 100m Individual Medley, placing 4th again, missing bronze in both events by a fraction of a second. He secured qualifying times for the National Championships in both races.
Tattygar PS Lisbellaw

Eoghan Donnelly (11) swam a new PB in the 50m Backstroke, maintaining his time in the 50m Butterfly.
Tiana Mbeulani (11) collected new PBs in both the 50m Backstroke and the 50m Freestyle races.
Kealan Rice (11) secured qualifying times for the National Championships in both the 100m Individual Medley and the 50m Freestyle, placing 12th in the latter.
These young swimmers have done their schools and Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club very proud in their performances.
A record number of swimmers have qualified to represent Fermanagh schools at the Irish Minor Schools Championships at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin at the end of March and we wish them all well as they sparkle for their schools in Dublin!
A squad of 33 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers attended the Swim Belfast Open Meet on Sunday the 15th of February in Lagan Valley Leisureplex, Lisburn. The gala was a great success for the Fermanagh swimmers who relished the opportunity to compete against swimmers from clubs across Ulster, Leinster & Connacht, returned home with numerous medals and personal best times.
Local Swimmers Sparkle for their Schools as Past & Present Lakelanders lead the way for Fermanagh at Swim Ulster’s Senior Schools’ Cup & Championships in Bangor
The Swim Ulster Schools Cup & Championships 2026 took place on Friday 6th February at Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex Bangor. Over 1000 swimmers from more than 130 schools across the province of Ulster took part in the one day event. Three local schools were part of the action with 22 local swimmers taking part.
On Saturday 31st January, 13 young swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club competed in Round 3 of the Swim Ulster Future Challengers Series at Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre, Belfast. The meet attracted over 450 swimmers aged 10–14 from across Ulster, all taking on the more challenging events of Individual Medley (IM), Backstroke and Butterfly.
The Lakelanders squad rose to the occasion, relishing the opportunity to race against strong provincial competition while aiming for personal best performances.
6 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers competed at Swim Ulster’s Open Long Course Meet at the Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex in Bangor on the 24 & 25th January. Swimmers from clubs all over Ireland attended this exciting start to the Long Course season and the Lakelanders were eager to race their fellow athletes in the fabulous 10 lane 50m pool at the Aurora.
A strong squad of Lakelanders junior swimmers took part in Swim Ulster Future Challengers Meet 2 at Omagh Leisure Centre on Saturday.
Coach Chelsey Weir was there to support the young swimmers who brought home a substantial haul of medal award pins and a raft of new personal times.
6 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers made the journey to the Coral Leisure Centre Monaghan for Sliabh Beagh Swimming Club’s Winter Cluster Meet on 6th & 7th December.

A successful day saw 4 podium finishes and an amazing number of swimmers qualify for the All-Ireland primary school championship to be held at the National Aquatic Centre Dublin next year.
A squad of 10 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers attended Dungannon Swimming Club’s 40th Anniversary Gala on Sunday the 9th November at Dungannon Leisure Centre. The gala was a great success for the young swimmers who returned home with numerous personal bests.
Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club held their Autumn Junior Gala on Sunday 26th October, an event aimed at younger swimmers. This was the club’s first Gala in their new temporary base at Omagh Leisure Centre and there was much excitement among the swimmers from the outset with 37 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders taking part. They were joined by competitors from nine other Ulster swimming clubs. For many of the 8-14 year-old competitors, this would be one their first experiences of individual competition, that all important first step for every sportsperson.
11 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club made their way to the Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre in Belfast to compete at Swim Ulster's Aspiring Champions Meet; the first Gala of the season for swimmers aged 13 and over. The event was held over two days, 18th & 19th October. Coaches across Ulster use this gala to assess and monitor swimmers' skills, providing the scaffolding for the building blocks for success in the coming season.
All the work so far on skills and technique resulted in a slew of Swim Ulster Awards, personal bests and many top ten finishes for the Enniskillen Lakelanders.
