Irish Minor Schools Championship / Senior Schools Interpro

The Irish Minor Schools Championships 2023 took place on Saturday 25th March 2023 at the National Aquatic Centre, Dublin. Six swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders had qualified back in October 2022 and were high with excitement as the headed off to The National Aquatic Centre in Dublin for the first time. The swimmers were determined to represent Ulster well on their debut.
Devenish college
Emma Speer (11) travelled to the National Aquatic Centre to represent Devenish College in the Swim Ireland Minor School Championships. Emma had excellent days swimming in her IM she improved her time by 2.20 seconds placing her in the top thirty. The highlight for Emma was her fifteenth place in the 50m breaststroke with a time of 45.23, another PB in a highly competitive field of over fifty swimmers in the under 12 category.
Enniskillen Model Primary School
Martha Mc Creesh (12) had an extremely successful day at the Aquatic Centre; she had qualified to swim two races - the 100m IM and 50m backstroke. A great start saw Martha gain a new PB and a 15th place finish in her IM. Later in the afternoon Martha swam a tightly contested 50m backstroke gaining a much sought-after place in the final and a new PB. Strategic swimming saw Martha drop a further 1 sec in the final leaving Martha very proud to finish 7th in Ireland in her 50m backstroke.
Enniskillen Royal Grammar School
Two swimmers travelled to the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin to represent Enniskillen Royal Grammar School. Jessica Millar (12) swam in her favoured stroke, breaststroke gaining a new PB and knocking almost 4 seconds off her time. Jessica was pleased to be placed first in her heat of 50m breast stroke and overall just outside the top twenty in the under twelve breaststroke. Erin Salcedo (12) also representing ERGS competed in two events. In 100m IM she got a PB of 2.70 seconds finishing just outside the top twenty while in 50m freestyle, she also had PB of 1.17, seconds again just finishing outside the top twenty but was very happy to find that she secured a time for summer nationals in June.
Holy Trinity PS Enniskillen
Keira Salcedo (10) represented Holy Trinity PS Enniskillen. She was delighted to qualify for the Irish Minor Schools back in October, the only Fermanagh representative in the 9-10 year section, where Keira did her school proud. Keira attained a PB of 3.00 seconds in her 50m breaststroke placing her in the top 13 overall in the under ten category while in 50m butterfly Keira just finished outside the top twenty; a great day in Dublin for a ten year old .
Tattygar Primary School
Myleene Leonard also had an excellent day in Dublin, Myleene had just qualified for one event in Dublin but her training and commitment to swimming has seen Myleene improve in leaps and bounds. Myleene was seeded at 39th position in the backstroke but dropped an incredible 6.35 sec and left her missing out on the final by one place, at eleventh spot this left Myleene very proud of her day in Dublin.
Schools Interpro
Enniskillen Lakelanders also had three representatives for the Swim Ulster Schools Interpro Team 2023 has been selected based on their performance at the Swim Ulster Senior Schools Cup & Championships which was held at Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex on the 4th Feb 2022.
Mount Lourdes was represented by Anna McDade whilst Enniskillen Royal Grammar was represented by Ellie Dunlop and Cora Rooney represented Colaiste Cholmchille. The girls all swam extremely in representing Ulster but unfortunately Leinster ran out winners on this occasion.
Our young swimmers now look forward to the next exciting event for junior swimmers on our calendar; the second round of the Aquasprint League which takes place on the 1st of April in Enniskillen . And the same weekend Ellie Dunlop, Anna and Kate McDade will be participating in the Irish Open at the National Aquatic Centre.
A squad of 10 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers attended Dungannon Swimming Club’s 40th Anniversary Gala on Sunday the 9th November at Dungannon Leisure Centre. The gala was a great success for the young swimmers who returned home with numerous personal bests.
Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club held their Autumn Junior Gala on Sunday 26th October, an event aimed at younger swimmers. This was the club’s first Gala in their new temporary base at Omagh Leisure Centre and there was much excitement among the swimmers from the outset with 37 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders taking part. They were joined by competitors from nine other Ulster swimming clubs. For many of the 8-14 year-old competitors, this would be one their first experiences of individual competition, that all important first step for every sportsperson.
11 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club made their way to the Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre in Belfast to compete at Swim Ulster's Aspiring Champions Meet; the first Gala of the season for swimmers aged 13 and over. The event was held over two days, 18th & 19th October. Coaches across Ulster use this gala to assess and monitor swimmers' skills, providing the scaffolding for the building blocks for success in the coming season.
All the work so far on skills and technique resulted in a slew of Swim Ulster Awards, personal bests and many top ten finishes for the Enniskillen Lakelanders.
Enniskillen Lakelanders kicked off the 2025/26 Swim Ulster competition season on Sunday when 17 junior members took part in the Future Challengers Meet 1 at the South Lakes Leisure Centre in Craigavon.
Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club were well represented on the National stage at the 2025 Irish Age Group National Championships at the University of Limerick Sports Arena last week. Six young Lakelanders’ swimmers joined almost 700 swimmers from over 100 clubs competing over four days of exciting competition.
With the 2024/2025 swimming season coming to an end, the finale for the competitive swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders is the Irish Summer National competitions. There is great excitement among the 6 Lakelanders swimmers who have qualified to compete at the Age Group Championships in Limerick.
Thursday 10th July sees the start of the 4 day Irish National Age Group Championships for swimmers aged 14 and under in the UL Sport Complex at the University of Limerick. Six Lakelanders have qualified to attend, two of whom are competing at this level for the first time.
Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club held their annual End of Season Gala last Saturday 28th June. This marks the end of the club's a very different 10 month season swimming in two counties across the FODC council. The gala is an opportunity for swimmers across all groups to compete side by side and a fun relay to round of the event.
Swim Ulster’s Swim Festival 2025 took place in Lisburn's Lagan Valley Leisureplex on Sunday the 22nd of June.
A squad of 18 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers, along with Head Coach Fionna Orr, made their way to Lisburn for the event.
Banbridge Open Long Course Meet took place in Craigavon’s South Lakes Leisure Centre on Saturday the 7th of June.
A squad of 13 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers, along with Head Coach Fionna Orr, made their way to the fabulous South Lakes Leisure Centre long course (50m) swimming pool for the final club meet of the season for the older swimmers. This meet provided the final opportunity for competitive swimmers to qualify for Swim Ireland's Irish Summer National competitions. As a bonus Banbridge swimming club had extended their invitation to clubs from all over Ireland. The chance to achieve qualifying times and compete against the best in Ireland was too good to miss.
A team of 39 young swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders ASC travelled to the Lagan Valley LeisurePlex in Lisburn last Friday to compete in the A final of this year’s Forest Feast AquaSprints League.
The event saw the young Lakelanders compete in a head to head battle against a strong squad from Lecale Swimming Club, while Swim Belfast and Olympia battled it out in the Division 4 B final, making the night a double event.
