
Lakelanders achieve Medals, PBs and Divisional Qualification Times in 1st Long C

The first Long Course swimming event of 2019 took place In Bangor Aurora pool over the weekend of 19/20th January. A strong team of 22 Lakelanders swimmers made the journey, some competing over the 2 days and many younger swimmers competing for the first time in the Long Course (50m) pool, a daunting experience in itself!
The Lakelanders team had a hugely successful weekend returning with 7 Gold, 9 Silver and 8 Bronze Medals, multiple divisional 2 times, well-earned division 1 times and a significant amount of personal best times (PB’s).
Annabel Morrison swam her 50m butterfly well and managed a 3sec PB placing her 6th. Her next event was the 200m breaststroke, this was the first time Annabel swam this at long course. She swam well but just narrowly missed a divisional 2 time, something to work towards! Annabel was delighted to finish the day with a silver medal in the 50m breast stroke.
Hayden James (11) swimming in the 12 year age group and LC for the first time gained valuable experience knocking a whopping 16.28 secs of his PB in the 100m Freestyle as well 3.86 secs in his 50m Breaststroke
Ben Lynch (15) was competing in the 16yrs and over category and was happy to come away with 7 top ten finishes, 3 PBs and 4 division 1 times.
His younger sibling Hannah Lynch (9) was not only competing for the first time at an individual event, it was also her first experience of LC. Hannah was delighted to finish 7th in 100m Breaststroke and take a silver medal in the 200m Freestyle.
Kealan Mc Shea competing in the 16 and over age group attended Day 2 of the event. Kealan had a great swim in the 200m Freestyle gaining a PB and a Bronze medal, he followed this with a further Bronze in the 200IM and finally a Top 10 finish in his 50M Freestyle
Emilie Reihill competed in 8 races over the 2 day event, 4 of which for the first time in LC. It was a successful 2 days for Emilie securing two valuable Division 2 times in the 100m Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle events, whilst also achieving a new Swim Ulster qualification time for her 50m Freestyle with a PB and a 5th place finish. Continuing form Emilie also achieved a PB and a 5th place finish in her 50m breaststroke, 4th place finish in her 50m Backstroke and times to target in the future across the 200m Freestyle, 200m backstroke and 100m backstroke. Isobel lannon(12) competed in 8 events over the weekend. With steady swims in her first long course competition of the season, Izzy took Bronze medals in the 200m Breaststroke and 200m Freestyle, a Silver in the 200m Backcrawl and finally Gold in the 100m Backcrawl. Securing two new division 1 times in both breaststroke events and now sitting on 3 more division 1 times Izzy was really happy with her weekend of swimming. Younger brother Jamie Lannon (11) made the most of LC swimming and went from strength to strength. Jamie brought up his division 2 tally to 5 with superb swims in his 50m Free and 200m IM. Out of 8 events Jamie won a bronze medal in the 50m Free, four silver medals in the 200m Breast, 100m Freestyle, 100m Fly and 200m IM and finally 2 gold medals in the 200m Freestyle and 50m Fly. Jamie was thrilled with his success and excited for the next long course competition in 2weeks time. Anna McDade(12) competed in 8 events also and was in pursuit of her divisional times. Not disappointing she got off to a phenomenal start on day one, achieving her first podium position of the weekend, with a massive 8.5sec PB, a well-earned division 2 time and a silver medal in the 200m breaststroke. On day two Anna achieved her second podium position, this time it was gold, a division one time and a 3.5sec pb in the 100m Breaststroke. A successful 2 days for Anna with divisional times and top 10 finishes achieved in all events. Ciosa McConnell, enjoyed her first experience of a LC gala in Bangor. Taking 3rd place and a Bronze medal in the 200m Breaststroke, a top 5 finish in her 100m Breaststroke, Ciosa certainly did not disappoint in what is her favoured strokes. She also enjoyed PBs in the 50m and 100m Freestyle events. This Meet gave her valuable experience that she is keen to progress on, in the season ahead.
Competing in her first LC event Anna Cairns, 11, enjoyed a successful meet. Anna’s first event was 100m back where she secured a new PB on her short course time by over 2 secs. Anna also performed well in her 200IM and 100m freestyle events, achieving 8 sec PBS in both. In her final event, 50m breast stroke, Anna finished in 5th place overall achieving a 1.86 sec PB with a time of 50.54 secs.
Molly Rice (11) competing in 12 year old age category and LC for the first time had a great meet with Top 10 finishes in all 4 of her races. Up first in the 50m Fly Molly secured a 2 sec PB over her short course time giving her a boost of confidence. With a 1 sec PB in her 100m Freestyle and a 5 sec PB in her 50m Breaststroke also on her SC times Molly gained valuable experience during the event.
Lauren Keaney swimming in the 14 years and older category took Bronze in the 50 m Breaststroke with a cool 3.35 secs being shaved off her previous PB.
Lewis Mc Cartney was competing in the 16 and over section at the weekend in Bangor. On Saturday he took part in the 200 Breaststroke finishing in a time of 2:42.26, earning him a bronze medal and dropping 1:90 seconds off his entry time. In the 100m Freestyle he finished 6th overall in a time of 58:65 seconds, a strong swim in a very competitive event.
Luke Aiken taking part in LC for the first time had a strong day of swimming managing a huge PB in the 50m Fly, whilst achieving top 10 finishes in 3 of his 4 events including the 100m Back, 100m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke. Great experience and valuable time targets were gained to welcome Luke to LC
This was also Molly Johnston’s first time to compete at a LC event. Swimming in the 100m Backstroke, 100m Freestyle and 200IM, Molly had a positive day being able at adopt her techniques for the 50m pool. She has set a strong bench mark to attain PB’s at the next long course event.
Cora Cassidy competed for the first time in a 2 day meet event and experienced a new challenge with Long Course. She had some fantastic PB’s and gained valuable experience across her key strokes.
Ellie Dunlop (10) competing in a long course event for the first time had a superb weekend coming home with 4 medals.
In her favourite race: the Breastroke she gained 3 Gold medals in the 50 metre, 100 metre & 200 metre with PB times in all 3. She then added a Silver medal in the 50 metre Butterfly and another PB, and also gained valuable experience in the 50 metre backstroke finishing in 4th place.
Oisin Mc Manus (15) started his weekend with the 400m Freestyle where he picked up a Bronze medal in the 16 and over category, he followed this with a 4th place finish in the 200m Butterfly, and a Silver medal in the 800m Freestyle. On day 2 he finished 4th in both the 100m Breastroke and the 200m Freestyle. Out of his 5 races, Oisin picked up 3 Irish Div 1 qualification times.
Under new Head Coach Aaron Rickuss, the Lakelanders created a talking point amongst the crowd with new team protocols for warm ups, visual presence around the pool and pre/post race togetherness and camaraderie. Lakelanders new Chairperson, Sara Lannon paid tribute to Aaron's new gala regime saying, 'it was fantastic seeing all the lakelanders team sitting together and supporting each other. In his first months here, Aaron has been a wonderfully positive force for the club and we're all excited about what the season ahead holds for our young swimmers'
A squad of 33 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers attended the Swim Belfast Open Meet on Sunday the 15th of February in Lagan Valley Leisureplex, Lisburn. The gala was a great success for the Fermanagh swimmers who relished the opportunity to compete against swimmers from clubs across Ulster, Leinster & Connacht, returned home with numerous medals and personal best times.
Local Swimmers Sparkle for their Schools as Past & Present Lakelanders lead the way for Fermanagh at Swim Ulster’s Senior Schools’ Cup & Championships in Bangor
The Swim Ulster Schools Cup & Championships 2026 took place on Friday 6th February at Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex Bangor. Over 1000 swimmers from more than 130 schools across the province of Ulster took part in the one day event. Three local schools were part of the action with 22 local swimmers taking part.
On Saturday 31st January, 13 young swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club competed in Round 3 of the Swim Ulster Future Challengers Series at Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre, Belfast. The meet attracted over 450 swimmers aged 10–14 from across Ulster, all taking on the more challenging events of Individual Medley (IM), Backstroke and Butterfly.
The Lakelanders squad rose to the occasion, relishing the opportunity to race against strong provincial competition while aiming for personal best performances.
6 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers competed at Swim Ulster’s Open Long Course Meet at the Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex in Bangor on the 24 & 25th January. Swimmers from clubs all over Ireland attended this exciting start to the Long Course season and the Lakelanders were eager to race their fellow athletes in the fabulous 10 lane 50m pool at the Aurora.
A strong squad of Lakelanders junior swimmers took part in Swim Ulster Future Challengers Meet 2 at Omagh Leisure Centre on Saturday.
Coach Chelsey Weir was there to support the young swimmers who brought home a substantial haul of medal award pins and a raft of new personal times.
6 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers made the journey to the Coral Leisure Centre Monaghan for Sliabh Beagh Swimming Club’s Winter Cluster Meet on 6th & 7th December.
Swim Ulster Primary Schools Cup and Championship was held at the Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex, Bangor on Saturday 29th November 2025. Excited for this opportunity to represent their schools, 22 swimmers across 10 local schools headed to Bangor determined to do the South-West proud and qualify for the All-Ireland Championships held in Dublin in March. Although a school competition, all the students attending are committed members of the Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club and mustered all their skills and training in competing against the best swimmers from schools across Ulster. A successful day saw 4 podium finishes and an amazing number of swimmers qualify for the All-Ireland primary school championship to be held at the National Aquatic Centre Dublin next year.
A squad of 10 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers attended Dungannon Swimming Club’s 40th Anniversary Gala on Sunday the 9th November at Dungannon Leisure Centre. The gala was a great success for the young swimmers who returned home with numerous personal bests.
Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club held their Autumn Junior Gala on Sunday 26th October, an event aimed at younger swimmers. This was the club’s first Gala in their new temporary base at Omagh Leisure Centre and there was much excitement among the swimmers from the outset with 37 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders taking part. They were joined by competitors from nine other Ulster swimming clubs. For many of the 8-14 year-old competitors, this would be one their first experiences of individual competition, that all important first step for every sportsperson.
11 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club made their way to the Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre in Belfast to compete at Swim Ulster's Aspiring Champions Meet; the first Gala of the season for swimmers aged 13 and over. The event was held over two days, 18th & 19th October. Coaches across Ulster use this gala to assess and monitor swimmers' skills, providing the scaffolding for the building blocks for success in the coming season.
All the work so far on skills and technique resulted in a slew of Swim Ulster Awards, personal bests and many top ten finishes for the Enniskillen Lakelanders.
