Lakelanders Excel at Ulster Short Course Championships in Lisburn
Six swimmers from the Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club competed at the Ulster Short Course Championships held at Lagan Valley Leisureplex, Lisburn at the weekend. Having achieved the Qualification standards for the three-day meet, these Lakelanders were eager to race against the fastest swimmers from across the Province.
Kiril Chursin (17) raced a fabulous 100m Breaststroke, maintaining his seed time in a very competitive event.
Ellie Dunlop (14) qualified for finals in all 5 of her events, securing top ten finishes and PBs across the board. She was the fastest 14 year old in 100m Individual Medley and 50m Breaststroke as well as the third fastest 14 year old in the 200m Breaststroke, 200m Individual Medley and 100m Breaststroke. Ellie won a bronze medal overall in the 50m Breaststroke final and Ellie was also crowned Ulster Junior Champion for the 50 Breaststroke, gaining a gold medal. Ellie has qualified to compete at the National Winter Short Course Championships in Dublin in December.

Most notable however, Kate was the first 15 year old to hit the wall in all three finals in addition to securing qualifications times for the Irish Open Winter Championships in December, a very promising start to the season.
James Mongan (16) qualified for the 200m Backstroke B final, where he was delighted to produce a further PB, hitting the wall as the third fastest 16 year old.
Gala secretary Michelle Reihill praised the swimmers’ performances, saying “this is a very encouraging start to the season for our senior swimmers, with numerous medals and PBs secured as well as new Irish Winter Championship qualification times. Many thanks to our Head Coach Ben Wiffen for his guidance and support of our swimmers across the weekend, and to all our parent volunteers who helped out over the three day event.”
