
Lakelanders lead the way at Sliabh Beagh Winter Meet

27 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers made the journey through the frosty countryside to the Coral Leisure Centre Monaghan for the Sliabh Beagh Swimming Club’s Winter Cluster Meet on Sunday 11th December.
11 swimmers competed in the morning session aimed at 13 – 18 year olds where the Lakelander swimmers led the way in many of the events.

Senan Burke (14) swam well in the 100m Backstroke and 200m Freestyle events. He was delighted to knock 4 seconds off his 100m Breaststroke time.
Kiril Chursin (16) picked up a gold medal along with a 2 second PB in the 100m Breaststroke event, a silver medal in the 100m Butterfly and another gold medal in the 200m Freestyle race to finish off a very successful day for him.
Ellie Dunlop (13) got her first event of the morning off to a fantastic start with a gold medal in the 100m Breaststroke and finishing as the fastest girl overall. Next up was the 200m Individual Medley where Ellie produced a strong swim to finish with a silver medal. Having not competed in her final event the 200m Freestyle in a long time, Ellie was pleased to finish 4th.
Hayden James (15) earned himself a silver medal and a 5 second PB in the 200m Individual Medley. Hayden then led the way in the 100m Butterfly finishing in 1st place earning himself a gold medal.
Izzy Lannon (16) was thrilled with her successful morning, gaining more confidence in her Individual medley skills, a strategic performance saw Izzy achieve the gold medal in the 200m Individual Medley. She followed this success with a strong swim in the 200m Freestyle, achieving her second gold medal of the Meet.
Jamie Lannon (14) had two fantastic performances in both of his events.
Jamie finished as the fastest boy of the Meet in the 100m Breaststroke and was awarded the gold medal in his 13-14yr age category.
The highlight for Jamie was an impressive 9 second P.B in the 200m Freestyle, coming in second fastest boy overall and again winning the gold medal in his age group.
Vita Lavrenova (15) swam in the challenging 100m Butterfly event, building her competition experience.
Anna McDade (16) got off to a good start winning the under 16 100m Breaststroke. She took an opportunity to try different events , and solid swims in 200m Individual Medley and 200m Freestyle, securing 2nd place in both. One gold and two silver medals in the under 16 age group was a good morning’s work!
Younger sister Kate Mc Dade (14) continues to improve. She made a great start, with a 3 sec PB in 100m Breaststroke finishing 2nd. A very impressive swim in 200m Individual Medley saw Kate knock 40 seconds off her entry time, moving from 12th seed to 3rd place. She finished off on a high, picking up a gold medal in the 200m Freestyle race.
James Mongan (15) began with a 4 second PB and a bronze medal in the 100m Backstroke, grabbed more fabulous PBs in the 100m Breaststroke and 200m Individual Medley before picking up a silver medal and a further PB in the 200m Freestyle event.
Niamh O’Donnell (14) took 9 seconds off her time in the 200m Individual Medley and followed that up with another great swim in the 200m Freestyle event.
These fantastic results are a credit to the swimmers, their families and the club’s dedicated coaching team led by Head Coach Ben Wiffen.
16 Lakelanders’ swimmers competed in the afternoon session which was aimed at swimmers aged 12 and under.

Holly Barkley (11) knocked almost 3 seconds off her 50m Breaststroke time. She also swam well in the 50m Backstroke race.
Daire Burke (10) Daire had three great swims, maintaining his times in all his events; 50m Backstroke, Breaststroke and 100m Freestyle.
Enda Burke (12) touched the wall in second place as well as gaining a PB in the 50m Backstroke. He went on to pick up more PBs in the 50m Breaststroke and the 50m Butterfly events.
Clara Leonard (9) secured gold in her first event, the 50m Backstroke, however she was most pleased about winning a silver medal in the 100m Individual Medley and knocking a whooping 25.41 seconds off her PB. Clara also won a silver medal in the 50 m Butterfly, placing 4th overall. She finished up with another PB in the 50m breaststroke race.
Myleene Leonard (11) achieved 4 PBs and knocked over 25 seconds off her times. Myleene had two strong swims coming 6th over all in the 50m Backstroke and 100m Freestyle.
Holly McCabe (11) Holly swam well in the 50m Backstroke and went on to knock 7 seconds off her 100m Freestyle PB.
Martha McCreesh (11) gained a bronze medal and a PB for her 50m Butterfly. Two other PBs in the 50m Breaststroke and the 100m Freestyle finished off a fun and sporting afternoon for Martha.
Russell Mikievicz Lumayad (12) took part in 4 races, achieving 2 PBs. He improved by 2.5 seconds in the 100m Individual Medley and dropped nearly 7 seconds off his 100m Freestyle time.
Jessica Millar (11) picked up new PBs in all of her events; 50m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke and the 100m Individual Medley race.
Ryan Mongan (12) gained new PBs in the 50m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke, 100m Individual Medley and 100m Freestyle and was delighted to win a bronze medal for 3rd place in his favoured 50m Breaststroke event.
Caelan Moore (12) enjoyed his second gala, competing in 2 races. He swam to his PB in the 50m Backstroke and went on to compete in the 50m Breaststroke where he managed to shave off 2.20secs off his PB.
Crea Mullen (10) took 5 seconds off her 50m Backstroke time and swam to her PB in the 50m Breaststroke race.
Ava Neal (12) had a very successful event, with 3 personal bests. She started with a strong performance in the 50m Breaststroke, finishing 1st.
Ava achieved another gold medal for the 100m Individual Medley. She finished off with the 50m Butterfly with an excellent new PB dropping 12 seconds and securing a silver medal.
Erin Salcedo (12) knocked 2 seconds off her 50m Breaststroke time, placing 4th. She had more great swims in the 100m Individual Medley, 50m Butterfly and the 100m Freestyle, in which she also won a bronze medal.
Younger sister Keira Salcedo (10) picked up a bronze medal and a 2 second PB in the 50m Breaststroke race. She gained further PBs in the 100m Individual Medley and 50m Butterfly and also swam well in the 100m Freestyle event.
Emma Speer (11) enjoyed her day at Sliabh Beagh; she swam in the 50m Breaststroke and 100m Individual Medley and gained new PBs in both, finishing in the 5th and 4th spot respectively.
Enniskillen Lakelanders’ Club Chairperson, Aideen Speer, praised all the swimmers on their performance on the day with medals and PBs across the board .
She also thanked all the parents, especially those who fulfilled volunteer roles on the day. She finally thanked the coaching team led by Head Coach Ben Wiffen for the wonderful job they are doing with all the swimmers. Just six weeks ago these swimmers competed at the Club’s home gala and to come back today and PB again is wonderful.
The club is looking forward to a few events over Christmas; an Ice-Skating fun day next weekend and a swim clinic with Olympian Daniel Wiffen and National Title holder Nathan Wiffen which will be a very special opportunity for the Lakelanders’ swimmers.
A squad of 33 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers attended the Swim Belfast Open Meet on Sunday the 15th of February in Lagan Valley Leisureplex, Lisburn. The gala was a great success for the Fermanagh swimmers who relished the opportunity to compete against swimmers from clubs across Ulster, Leinster & Connacht, returned home with numerous medals and personal best times.
Local Swimmers Sparkle for their Schools as Past & Present Lakelanders lead the way for Fermanagh at Swim Ulster’s Senior Schools’ Cup & Championships in Bangor
The Swim Ulster Schools Cup & Championships 2026 took place on Friday 6th February at Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex Bangor. Over 1000 swimmers from more than 130 schools across the province of Ulster took part in the one day event. Three local schools were part of the action with 22 local swimmers taking part.
On Saturday 31st January, 13 young swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club competed in Round 3 of the Swim Ulster Future Challengers Series at Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre, Belfast. The meet attracted over 450 swimmers aged 10–14 from across Ulster, all taking on the more challenging events of Individual Medley (IM), Backstroke and Butterfly.
The Lakelanders squad rose to the occasion, relishing the opportunity to race against strong provincial competition while aiming for personal best performances.
6 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers competed at Swim Ulster’s Open Long Course Meet at the Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex in Bangor on the 24 & 25th January. Swimmers from clubs all over Ireland attended this exciting start to the Long Course season and the Lakelanders were eager to race their fellow athletes in the fabulous 10 lane 50m pool at the Aurora.
A strong squad of Lakelanders junior swimmers took part in Swim Ulster Future Challengers Meet 2 at Omagh Leisure Centre on Saturday.
Coach Chelsey Weir was there to support the young swimmers who brought home a substantial haul of medal award pins and a raft of new personal times.

Swim Ulster Primary Schools Cup and Championship was held at the Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex, Bangor on Saturday 29th November 2025. Excited for this opportunity to represent their schools, 22 swimmers across 10 local schools headed to Bangor determined to do the South-West proud and qualify for the All-Ireland Championships held in Dublin in March. Although a school competition, all the students attending are committed members of the Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club and mustered all their skills and training in competing against the best swimmers from schools across Ulster. A successful day saw 4 podium finishes and an amazing number of swimmers qualify for the All-Ireland primary school championship to be held at the National Aquatic Centre Dublin next year.
A squad of 10 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers attended Dungannon Swimming Club’s 40th Anniversary Gala on Sunday the 9th November at Dungannon Leisure Centre. The gala was a great success for the young swimmers who returned home with numerous personal bests.
Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club held their Autumn Junior Gala on Sunday 26th October, an event aimed at younger swimmers. This was the club’s first Gala in their new temporary base at Omagh Leisure Centre and there was much excitement among the swimmers from the outset with 37 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders taking part. They were joined by competitors from nine other Ulster swimming clubs. For many of the 8-14 year-old competitors, this would be one their first experiences of individual competition, that all important first step for every sportsperson.
11 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club made their way to the Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre in Belfast to compete at Swim Ulster's Aspiring Champions Meet; the first Gala of the season for swimmers aged 13 and over. The event was held over two days, 18th & 19th October. Coaches across Ulster use this gala to assess and monitor swimmers' skills, providing the scaffolding for the building blocks for success in the coming season.
All the work so far on skills and technique resulted in a slew of Swim Ulster Awards, personal bests and many top ten finishes for the Enniskillen Lakelanders.
