Lakelanders Long Course Season off to a flying start in Craigavon
29 members of the Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club competed at South Lakes Open Long Course Gala held at the South Lakes Leisure complex, Craigavon on 24th and 25th February. This marked the beginning of the Long Course season for these swimmers who enjoyed the opportunity to compete in a 50m pool and for some it was a chance to secure qualification times for upcoming Summer National events.
Holly Barkley (13) picked up new PBs in100m and 200m Breaststroke and 100m Freestyle.
Shannon Brennan (13) secured new PBs in 50m and 200m Breaststroke and 100m Freestyle.
Daire Burke (12) clocked into 4th place with a new 100m Breaststroke PB and another PB saw him hit the wall in 5th place in the 50m Backstroke.
Michael Carron (11) picked up a new PB in 100m Backstroke and 100m Freestyle, maintaining his seed times to secure top ten finishes in both 50m Freestyle and 50m Breastroke.
Josh Cassidy (14) collected new PBs in his 50m and 100m Freestyle and maintained his time to finish in the top ten in the 50m Breaststroke.
Kiril Chursin (18) hit the wall among the top ten under new PBs in 100m and 200m Freestyle, 50m and 200m Breaststroke as well as the 100m Butterfly event.
Darragh Collins (13) ranked in the top 5 in 200m Backstroke, maintained his time in 100m Breaststroke and collected a new PB in the 50m Butterfly, finishing among the top 10.
Lorcan Doherty (15) swam new PBs in both 100m and 200m Freestyle, maintaining his time in the 100m Breaststroke.
Ellie Dunlop (15) won Gold medals in 50m and 100m Breaststroke, a Silver medal in the 200m Breaststroke and a bronze medal in the 100m Butterfly, securing qualification times for Ulster Championships and Summer Nationals in all her events. Ellie has also now qualified to compete at the prestigious McCullagh International Meet in her three Breaststroke events.
Sophie Hanna (12) shaved time off her PBS in 100m Breaststroke, Backstroke and Freestyle, securing her qualification for the Ulster Championships in the 50m Freestyle event.
Vita Lavrenova (17) clocked new PBs in the 50m and 100m Freestyle races along with a top ten finish in the 100m Butterfly.
Clara Leonard (11) hit the wall in the top ten in the 100m Backstroke, maintained her PBs in the 100m Breaststroke and Freestyle and collected a new PB in the 50m Freestyle race.
Older sister Myleene Leonard (13) maintained her PBs in 100m Breaststroke, Backstroke, and Freestyle, 50m Freestyle and 200m Backstroke events.
Hannah Lynch (15) claimed Gold medals in the 400m Individual Medley and 100m Backstroke, Silver in the 200m Freestyle and a Bronze medal in the 200m Backstroke. Hannah also secured her qualification for the Summer Nationals in all her events.
Holly McCabe (13) collected new PBs in the 100m Backstroke and 200m Freestyle. She maintained her PB in the 100m Freestyle race.
Martha McCreesh (13) won a bronze medal in the 100m Backstroke, hit the wall in 4th place in the 100m Butterfly with new PBs. She also picked up new PBs in the 50m and 100m Freestyle, securing qualifying times for the Ulster Championships in all events and National qualification in the Backstroke and Butterfly races.
Kate McDade (16) swam new PBs in all events entered. In her favoured Breaststroke, she won Gold medals in the 100m and 200m events. Showing her versatility, Kate knocked 4 seconds off her 400m Freestyle time to win a Silver medal. She demonstrated a similar improvement in the 200m Freestyle, just missing out on podium finishing 4th. A top 5 finish in the 100m Freestyle secured her qualifying times across all events entered for the Ulster championships.
Russell Mikievicz Lumayad (14) clocked new PBs in the 100m Backstroke, 200m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke, hitting the wall in the top 10 in the latter.
James Mongan (17) secured a bronze medal in the 200m Backstroke ensuring his qualification for the Summer Nationals in Dublin. He narrowly missed podium spots with 4th places in 100m Backstroke and 400m Freestyle. He had a top 10 finish in the 200m Breaststroke event.
Younger brother Ryan Mongan (14) collected new PBs in the 200m Freestyle, 100m Breaststroke and 50m Butterfly, ranking 7th in the latter. He maintained his PB in the 100m Freestyle.
Crea Mullen (12) claimed top ten finishes and new PBs in the 50m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly, maintaining her PB in the 100m Freestyle. Crea secured a qualifying time for the Ulster Championships in the 50m Freestyle event.
Anton Neal (13) clocked new PBs in the 200m Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle, maintaining his PBs in the 100m Backstroke and 50m and 100m Breaststroke events.
Older sister Ava Neal (15) gained new PBs and top 10 finishes across all her events, narrowly missing the podium with 4th places in the 100m and 200m Breaststroke races. She has also qualified to compete at Ulster Championships and Summer Nationals in the 100m & 200m Breaststroke and the 200m Freestyle events.
Tori Reid (14) swam new PBs in the 100m Backstroke, 100m Freestyle and 200m Breaststroke races.
Maeve Rolston-McAuliffe (13) picked up new PBs in the 50m and 100m Freestyle events.
Erin Salcedo (14) hit the wall with top ten finishes in the 100m and 200m Breaststroke, with a new PB in the 100m event. Erin secured another PB in the 200m Freestyle and swam to her PB in the 100m Freestyle race.
Younger sister Keira Salcedo (12) clocked new PBs, top ten finishes and qualifying times for the Summer Nationals in the 100m and 200m Breaststroke races. She gained further PBs in the 100m and 200m Freestyle events.
Emma Speer (13) hit the wall in 6th place in the 200m Breaststroke with a new PB and qualifying time for Summer Nationals in Limerick. Emma secured further PBs in the 50m and 100m Freestyle races.
Conal Walker (16) ranked in the top 6 in all his races with new PBs across the board. He won a Silver medal in the 200m Breaststroke, a Bronze medal in the 100m Breaststroke and narrowly missed the podium with 4th place in the 200m Freestyle.
Head Coach Ben Wiffen and Club Chairperson Aideen Speer expressed their delight in seeing such a large number of Lakelanders participating in this challenging 50m Long Course Gala saying it demonstrated fantastic potential within the club for a very bright season ahead.
A squad of 33 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers attended the Swim Belfast Open Meet on Sunday the 15th of February in Lagan Valley Leisureplex, Lisburn. The gala was a great success for the Fermanagh swimmers who relished the opportunity to compete against swimmers from clubs across Ulster, Leinster & Connacht, returned home with numerous medals and personal best times.
Local Swimmers Sparkle for their Schools as Past & Present Lakelanders lead the way for Fermanagh at Swim Ulster’s Senior Schools’ Cup & Championships in Bangor
The Swim Ulster Schools Cup & Championships 2026 took place on Friday 6th February at Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex Bangor. Over 1000 swimmers from more than 130 schools across the province of Ulster took part in the one day event. Three local schools were part of the action with 22 local swimmers taking part.
On Saturday 31st January, 13 young swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club competed in Round 3 of the Swim Ulster Future Challengers Series at Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre, Belfast. The meet attracted over 450 swimmers aged 10–14 from across Ulster, all taking on the more challenging events of Individual Medley (IM), Backstroke and Butterfly.
The Lakelanders squad rose to the occasion, relishing the opportunity to race against strong provincial competition while aiming for personal best performances.
6 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers competed at Swim Ulster’s Open Long Course Meet at the Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex in Bangor on the 24 & 25th January. Swimmers from clubs all over Ireland attended this exciting start to the Long Course season and the Lakelanders were eager to race their fellow athletes in the fabulous 10 lane 50m pool at the Aurora.
A strong squad of Lakelanders junior swimmers took part in Swim Ulster Future Challengers Meet 2 at Omagh Leisure Centre on Saturday.
Coach Chelsey Weir was there to support the young swimmers who brought home a substantial haul of medal award pins and a raft of new personal times.
6 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers made the journey to the Coral Leisure Centre Monaghan for Sliabh Beagh Swimming Club’s Winter Cluster Meet on 6th & 7th December.
Swim Ulster Primary Schools Cup and Championship was held at the Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex, Bangor on Saturday 29th November 2025. Excited for this opportunity to represent their schools, 22 swimmers across 10 local schools headed to Bangor determined to do the South-West proud and qualify for the All-Ireland Championships held in Dublin in March. Although a school competition, all the students attending are committed members of the Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club and mustered all their skills and training in competing against the best swimmers from schools across Ulster. A successful day saw 4 podium finishes and an amazing number of swimmers qualify for the All-Ireland primary school championship to be held at the National Aquatic Centre Dublin next year.
A squad of 10 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers attended Dungannon Swimming Club’s 40th Anniversary Gala on Sunday the 9th November at Dungannon Leisure Centre. The gala was a great success for the young swimmers who returned home with numerous personal bests.
Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club held their Autumn Junior Gala on Sunday 26th October, an event aimed at younger swimmers. This was the club’s first Gala in their new temporary base at Omagh Leisure Centre and there was much excitement among the swimmers from the outset with 37 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders taking part. They were joined by competitors from nine other Ulster swimming clubs. For many of the 8-14 year-old competitors, this would be one their first experiences of individual competition, that all important first step for every sportsperson.
11 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club made their way to the Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre in Belfast to compete at Swim Ulster's Aspiring Champions Meet; the first Gala of the season for swimmers aged 13 and over. The event was held over two days, 18th & 19th October. Coaches across Ulster use this gala to assess and monitor swimmers' skills, providing the scaffolding for the building blocks for success in the coming season.
All the work so far on skills and technique resulted in a slew of Swim Ulster Awards, personal bests and many top ten finishes for the Enniskillen Lakelanders.
