Lakelanders swim a storm at Sliabh Beagh Winter Gala

19 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers made the journey to the Coral Leisure Centre in Monaghan for the Sliabh Beagh Swimming Club’s Winter Cluster Meet on Sunday 1st December.
7 swimmers competed in the morning session aimed at 12 – 18 year olds where the Lakelanders showed their hard work in training was working well.
Holly Barkley (13) had three strong swims with a top ten finish in her 200m Freestyle.
Darragh Collins (13) had a super start competing in his first long distance 800m Freestyle event, hitting the wall as second fastest 13 year old. He went on to produce strong swims in the 100m Backstroke and Freestyle picking up two top 5 finishes in his age group. He was most pleased with dropping 7 seconds off his PB in the100m Breaststroke.
Luna Murphy (13) had a good day with two new PBs in 100m and 200m Freestyle, finishing in the top ten in her age group in 200m Freestyle with a well earned 8 second improvement.
Ava Neal (14) successfully competed in four races and was very happy to have PBs in all. Ava returned home with two silver medals in both the 200m and 100m Freestyle. Ava was also awarded two bronze medals for 200m and 100m Breaststroke.
Anton Neal (13) was delighted to achieve a massive 19.48 second PB in his 200m Breaststroke and another PB in his 100m Freestyle.
Ella Neal (12) was very pleased to trim a whopping 12.55 seconds off her PB in the 100m Freestyle and collected another PB in her 100m Backstroke. Ella was thrilled to be placed in the top ten in both events.
Finlay Walker Leonard (13) achieved top ten finishes and two PBs in both 100m Backstroke and 100m Breaststroke.
16 Lakelanders’ swimmers competed in the afternoon session which was aimed at swimmers aged 12 and under.
Tara Collins (9) enjoyed her first competitive ‘away’ gala, clinching a top ten finish in the 9 year old girls' 50m Breaststroke and knocking an impressive 18 seconds off her 100m Individual Medley PB.
Orlaith Howell (9) secured PBs in all three of her events. She was the second age 9 girl in 50m Breaststroke with a 3 second PB. Orlaith took an impressive 9 seconds off her 100m Individual Medley and 1 second off her 50m Backstroke time.
Mollie Kate Brewster (9) swam three PBs in her four events. She won gold in 50m Butterfly, silver in 50m Backstroke and bronze in both 100m Individual Medley and 100m Freestyle. She was first 9 year old home in all her events.
Finn Coyle (9) swam a massive 17 second PB in his 100m Freestyle and received a bronze medal in this event. He also finished in the top ten in the 50m Backstroke and the 50m Breaststroke. He was also the first 9 year old home in his 100m Freestyle.
Joseph McKenna (9) secured a silver medal in 50m Breaststroke and a top ten finish in his 100m Freestyle with a 12 second PB. He was also the first 9 year old home in his 50m Breaststroke.
Niamh Howell (10) swam in four events securing gold in 50m Breaststroke with a new PB. She finished in the top three in the 50m Backstroke and among the top 10 in the 100m Individual Medley with a strong swim also in her 50m Butterfly.
Tiana Mbeulani (11) swam PBs in both the 50m Breaststroke and 100m Freestyle.
Kealan Rice (11) secured PBs in all four of his events, with an impressive 17 seconds improvement on his 100m Freestyle.
Michael Carron (11) competed in four events, Michael swam PBs in both the 100m Individual Medley and the 50m Butterfly.
Conor Collins (11) swam three events and claimed two very impressive PBs in both the 100m Individual Medley and the 100m Freestyle with an improvement of 6 seconds and 9 seconds respectively.
Charles Armstrong (12) swam three events and had a PB in his 50m Breaststroke.
Enniskillen Lakelanders’ Club Chairperson, Aideen Speer, praised all the swimmers on their performance on the day with lots of medals across the board. She also thanked all the parents, especially those who fulfilled volunteer roles on the day. She finally thanked the coaching team for the wonderful job they are doing with all the swimmers. Just three weeks ago these swimmers competed at the Club’s home gala and to come back today and PB again is wonderful. This was also a sad day for many Lakelanders with the possibility that this may have been their last gala due to the proposed closure of the Lakeland Forum, but all the swimmers did their club proud.
Next weekend our swimmers head to the final Future Challengers Gala of the year at Omagh Leisure Centre and the club wishes them all well.
A squad of 33 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers attended the Swim Belfast Open Meet on Sunday the 15th of February in Lagan Valley Leisureplex, Lisburn. The gala was a great success for the Fermanagh swimmers who relished the opportunity to compete against swimmers from clubs across Ulster, Leinster & Connacht, returned home with numerous medals and personal best times.
Local Swimmers Sparkle for their Schools as Past & Present Lakelanders lead the way for Fermanagh at Swim Ulster’s Senior Schools’ Cup & Championships in Bangor
The Swim Ulster Schools Cup & Championships 2026 took place on Friday 6th February at Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex Bangor. Over 1000 swimmers from more than 130 schools across the province of Ulster took part in the one day event. Three local schools were part of the action with 22 local swimmers taking part.
On Saturday 31st January, 13 young swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club competed in Round 3 of the Swim Ulster Future Challengers Series at Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre, Belfast. The meet attracted over 450 swimmers aged 10–14 from across Ulster, all taking on the more challenging events of Individual Medley (IM), Backstroke and Butterfly.
The Lakelanders squad rose to the occasion, relishing the opportunity to race against strong provincial competition while aiming for personal best performances.
6 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers competed at Swim Ulster’s Open Long Course Meet at the Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex in Bangor on the 24 & 25th January. Swimmers from clubs all over Ireland attended this exciting start to the Long Course season and the Lakelanders were eager to race their fellow athletes in the fabulous 10 lane 50m pool at the Aurora.
A strong squad of Lakelanders junior swimmers took part in Swim Ulster Future Challengers Meet 2 at Omagh Leisure Centre on Saturday.
Coach Chelsey Weir was there to support the young swimmers who brought home a substantial haul of medal award pins and a raft of new personal times.

Swim Ulster Primary Schools Cup and Championship was held at the Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex, Bangor on Saturday 29th November 2025. Excited for this opportunity to represent their schools, 22 swimmers across 10 local schools headed to Bangor determined to do the South-West proud and qualify for the All-Ireland Championships held in Dublin in March. Although a school competition, all the students attending are committed members of the Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club and mustered all their skills and training in competing against the best swimmers from schools across Ulster. A successful day saw 4 podium finishes and an amazing number of swimmers qualify for the All-Ireland primary school championship to be held at the National Aquatic Centre Dublin next year.
A squad of 10 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers attended Dungannon Swimming Club’s 40th Anniversary Gala on Sunday the 9th November at Dungannon Leisure Centre. The gala was a great success for the young swimmers who returned home with numerous personal bests.
Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club held their Autumn Junior Gala on Sunday 26th October, an event aimed at younger swimmers. This was the club’s first Gala in their new temporary base at Omagh Leisure Centre and there was much excitement among the swimmers from the outset with 37 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders taking part. They were joined by competitors from nine other Ulster swimming clubs. For many of the 8-14 year-old competitors, this would be one their first experiences of individual competition, that all important first step for every sportsperson.
11 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club made their way to the Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre in Belfast to compete at Swim Ulster's Aspiring Champions Meet; the first Gala of the season for swimmers aged 13 and over. The event was held over two days, 18th & 19th October. Coaches across Ulster use this gala to assess and monitor swimmers' skills, providing the scaffolding for the building blocks for success in the coming season.
All the work so far on skills and technique resulted in a slew of Swim Ulster Awards, personal bests and many top ten finishes for the Enniskillen Lakelanders.
