
Swim Ulster Primary Schools' Championship 2022

Ulster Minor Schools’ Championship.
Swim Ulster Primary Schools Cup and Championship was held in the Bangor Aurora complex on Saturday 8th October 2022. The last time this championship was held was in 2019 before Covid took hold and halted life as our children knew it.
Excited for this opportunity to compete again, 17 swimmers across 7 Enniskillen schools headed to Bangor, determined to do the Southwest proud and qualify for the All-Ireland Championships held in Dublin in March. Although a school competition, all the students attending are committed members of the Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club and mustered all their skills and training in competing against the best swimmers from schools across Ulster. A successful day saw 2 podium finishes and 5 swimmers qualify for the All-Ireland primary school championship in March 2023.
Devenish college
Emma Speer travelled to the Aurora Aquatic Centre Bangor to represent Devenish College in the Swim Ulster Primary School Championships. Emma had an excellent day’s swimming; in her IM she finished 10th in Ulster with a time of 1.34.01. The highlight for Emma was her fifth place in the 50m Breaststroke with a time of 46.43; another PB. Emma now qualifies to compete at the All-Ireland Irish Minor School in March 2023 in both these events.
Enniskillen Model Primary School
Four children from Enniskillen Model Primary School attended the Swim Ulster Primary Schools Cup Championship. Sam Curran had two great PBs whilst swimming in the 50m Freestyle and the 50m Breaststroke events. Mirko Man gained two top ten finishes for the 100m Individual Medley and the 50m Butterfly. Holly McCabe gained two fantastic PBs in the 50m Freestyle and the 50m Backstroke. Martha McCreesh achieved two PBs, and qualified for finals finishing 8th in Ulster in 100m Individual Medley and 6th in Ulster in the 50m Backstroke. Martha has now qualified for the Nationals in Dublin in March 2023 for both events.
Enniskillen Royal Grammar School
Four swimmers travelled to the Aurora Aquatic Centre Bangor to represent Enniskillen Royal Grammar School. All four swimmers recorded superb personal best times; Jessica Miller with 47.92s 50m Freestyle, Maeve Rolston McAuliffe with 41.69s 50m Freestyle and 54.46s 50m Butterfly and Harvey Simmons with 55.46s 50m Freestyle.
A standout performance was made by Erin Salcedo qualifying for two finals whilst achieving personal best times in her respective events, 36.31s 50m Freestyle and 1.31.73 100m IM. Erin will also go on to represent ERGS in the Irish minor school's championships in March 2023 in the IM.
Holy Trinity PS Enniskillen
Keira Salcedo (10) represented Holy Trinity PS Enniskillen. She was delighted to qualify for finals in both of her chosen events. The 50m Butterfly final saw Keira take a whopping 17 seconds off her PB, placing 5th in Ulster in her age group. The 50m Breaststroke saw Keira touch the wall in 3rd place in Ulster, winning the bronze medal for Holy Trinity PS. Keira’s performances also qualify her to compete at the Irish Minor Schools Championships at the National Aquatic Centre, Dublin in March 2023.
Enniskillen Integrated Primary School
Anton Neal represented Enniskillen Integrated Primary school. He had great swims in both breaststroke and freestyle and was delighted with two PB’s at his first big competition.
St Michael’s College Enniskillen.
Three St Michael’s year 8 boys travelled to Bangor keen to do their new school proud and they didn't disappoint in their performances in the 12 year old age group. New to competitive swimming Darragh Collins impressed by achieving a 6second PB in the 50m freestyle and a 3s PB in the 50m Breaststroke. Josh Cassidy having a great start to his season also delivered fantastic swimming, achieving a 2s PB in the 50m Freestyle and 2sec PB in the 50m Breaststroke. Strategic swimming saw Luke Lannon qualify for both finals in his chosen events. Luke was very proud to finish 5th in Ulster in the 50m Breaststroke and 3rd in Ulster in the 50m Back Crawl winning the bronze medal for St Michael’s. Luke also qualifies for the Irish minor schools in March 23 in his events.
Mount Lourdes Grammar School
Tori Reid year 8 was the single representative from Mount Lourdes Grammar School at the Swim Ulster Primary School championship. Tori, put in stellar performances and achieved PB’s in both the IM and Breaststroke events. The highlight for Tori was a 5s personal best in the 50m Breaststroke.
Tattygar Primary School
Clara Leonard, new to competitive swimming, had 2 brilliant swims achieving a PB in the Freestyle knocking 11 seconds off her time and finishing 13th overall. She achieved her second PB in the butterfly placing 12th overall in Ulster in her age group. Older sister Myleene also had excellent swims, finishing in the top 15 and achieving a PB in the butterfly, knocking a massive 16 seconds off her time. The highlight for Myleene was qualifying for the finals finishing 9th overall in Ulster the 50m back stroke with another PB of 47.43.
These young swimmers now look forward the next exciting event for junior swimmers on our calendar; the Enniskillen Lakelanders’ Junior Gala, planned for the 23rd October at the Lakeland Forum. Many of this group will avail of this local opportunity to continue developing their racing skills as they set their sights on the Irish Minor Schools Championships at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin in March 2023.
