Young Lakelanders give Sliabh Beagh a tough battle for Aquasprint League Round 3 win
A team of fifty-one Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers fought hard against a strong Sliabh Beagh squad at the Coral Leisure Centre in Monaghan on Saturday evening, just missing out on maintaining their winning streak since Aquasprints resumed in 2022. The Enniskillen team enjoyed a competitive night’s swimming non-the-less, with several individual and relay victories to celebrate.
The competition is a starting point for the younger swimmers to gain experience racing in all four strokes in individual and relay events over 25m and began with the Medley Relays.
Lakelanders Group A team of Michael Carron, Niamh Howell, James McSorley and Clara Leonard placed a close second. Group B followed suit with another 2nd for Crea Mullan, Charles Armstrong, Sophie Hanna and Daire Burke.
Group C hit the wall with only 0.66 seconds off the winning spot for Martha McCreesh, Emma Speer, Mirko Mann and Darragh Collins. Lakelanders Group D of Erin Salcedo, Ryan Mongan, Ava Neal and Russell Mikievicz Lumayad also just missed the top spot leaving the Lakelanders keen to claw back crucial points moving into the individual events.
The Backstroke races produced a 1st place for Martha McCreesh, 2nd places were won by Crea Mullan and Ava Neal and 3rds achieved by Clara Leonard, Michael Carron, Sophie Hanna, Daire Burke, Darragh Collins and Russell Mikievicz Lumayad. Further team points were picked up by Mollie Kate Brewster, Jakub Mikievicz Lumayad, Niamh Howell, James McSorley, Katie McGowan, Charles Armstrong, Emmett Coyle, Maeve Rolston-McAuliffe, Mirko Mann, Anton Neal, Erin Salcedo, Holly McCabe, Ryan Mongan and Josh Cassidy.
Breaststroke round saw more great swimming by the Lakelanders with 1st positions for Emmett Coyle, Jessica Millar and Ava Neal, with 2nd places for Keira Salcedo, Martha McCreesh, Erin Salcedo and Ryan Mongan. 3rd position credits were secured by Clara Leonard, Michael Carron, Daire Burke, Darragh Collins and Russell Mikievicz Lumayad. Valuable points for the club total also picked up by Niamh Howell, Kealan Rice, Joseph McKenna, Ella Neal, Sophie Hanna, Charles Armstrong, Emma Speer, Anton Neal, Maia Rolston McAuliffe, Mirko Mann and Katie James. Lakelanders were delighted to have gained some lost ground back from their opponents and moved to the Butterfly events with renewed confidence.
The Butterfly stroke is a trial of endurance, particularly for younger swimmers and the Enniskillen squad were pleased to see a 1st place for Martha McCreesh, 2ndplaces for Sophie Hanna and Emmett Coyle, 3rd placings for Clara Leonard, Michael Carron, Charles Armstrong, Mirko Mann, Ava Neal and Russell Mikievicz Lumayad. Further points were picked up by Niamh Howell, Mollie Kate Brewster, James McSorley, Jakub Mikievicz Lumayad, Katie McGowan, Keira Salcedo, Daire Burke, Maeve Rolston McAuliffe, Myleene Leonard, Darragh Collins, Finlay Walker, Erin Salcedo, Tori Reid, Ryan Mongan and Caelan Moore.
Front Crawl was the final individual event and fast paced racing produced 1st spots for Emmett Coyle and Myleene Leonard, with 2nd places for Martha McCreesh and Ava Neal. More points were scored by 3rd place finishes from Clara Leonard, Michael Carron, Crea Mullan, Daire Burke, Mirko Mann and Ryan Mongan. Further credits were secured by Niamh Howell, Mollie Kate Brewster, James McSorley, Conor Collins, Sophie Hanna, Keira Salcedo, Charles Armstrong, Emma Speer, Darragh Collins, Anton Neal, Erin Salcedo, Olivia McCaffrey Russell Mikievicz Lumayad and Josh Cassidy.
In an exciting final event, the Enniskillen swimmers scored well in the Freestyle relays. There were many super swims, with valuable point scoring in relays by Anna May Hill, Tiana Mbeulani, Maia Rolston McAuliffe, Joseph McKenna, Kealan Rice, Myah Greene, Holly Barkley, Luna Murphy, Mavis Mann, Alfie Millar, Ava Nugent, Evie Dundas, Holly McCabe, Finlay Walker, and Maria Clifford.
The MVS (Most Valuable Swimmer) award for the Lakelanders went to Martha McCreesh and Emmett Coyle, both winning two 1sts in the individual races.
Following speeches from the team Captains of Ava Neal and Ryan Mongan, the final result was announced with the Enniskillen squad thanking Sliabh Beagh for a competitive gala and a thirst for victory in their next Aquasprint round versus Newry.
Team Gala Co-ordinator and Club Chairperson Aideen Speer was proud of all the swimmers’ efforts and impeccable behaviour as were their families.
The smooth running of the event was a credit to all the parent volunteers who were ably assisted by a team of senior swimmers, all supporting the stellar work of the coaching team led by Ben Wiffen and Clare Morris. The club express their gratitude to Lough Erne Resort and Western Cars Enniskillen for their continued support.
The young Lakelanders will now set their sights on facing Newry swimming club in the next round on 27th May on home ground at the Lakeland Forum, Enniskillen.

A squad of 33 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers attended the Swim Belfast Open Meet on Sunday the 15th of February in Lagan Valley Leisureplex, Lisburn. The gala was a great success for the Fermanagh swimmers who relished the opportunity to compete against swimmers from clubs across Ulster, Leinster & Connacht, returned home with numerous medals and personal best times.
Local Swimmers Sparkle for their Schools as Past & Present Lakelanders lead the way for Fermanagh at Swim Ulster’s Senior Schools’ Cup & Championships in Bangor
The Swim Ulster Schools Cup & Championships 2026 took place on Friday 6th February at Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex Bangor. Over 1000 swimmers from more than 130 schools across the province of Ulster took part in the one day event. Three local schools were part of the action with 22 local swimmers taking part.
On Saturday 31st January, 13 young swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club competed in Round 3 of the Swim Ulster Future Challengers Series at Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre, Belfast. The meet attracted over 450 swimmers aged 10–14 from across Ulster, all taking on the more challenging events of Individual Medley (IM), Backstroke and Butterfly.
The Lakelanders squad rose to the occasion, relishing the opportunity to race against strong provincial competition while aiming for personal best performances.
6 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers competed at Swim Ulster’s Open Long Course Meet at the Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex in Bangor on the 24 & 25th January. Swimmers from clubs all over Ireland attended this exciting start to the Long Course season and the Lakelanders were eager to race their fellow athletes in the fabulous 10 lane 50m pool at the Aurora.
A strong squad of Lakelanders junior swimmers took part in Swim Ulster Future Challengers Meet 2 at Omagh Leisure Centre on Saturday.
Coach Chelsey Weir was there to support the young swimmers who brought home a substantial haul of medal award pins and a raft of new personal times.
6 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers made the journey to the Coral Leisure Centre Monaghan for Sliabh Beagh Swimming Club’s Winter Cluster Meet on 6th & 7th December.
Swim Ulster Primary Schools Cup and Championship was held at the Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex, Bangor on Saturday 29th November 2025. Excited for this opportunity to represent their schools, 22 swimmers across 10 local schools headed to Bangor determined to do the South-West proud and qualify for the All-Ireland Championships held in Dublin in March. Although a school competition, all the students attending are committed members of the Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club and mustered all their skills and training in competing against the best swimmers from schools across Ulster. A successful day saw 4 podium finishes and an amazing number of swimmers qualify for the All-Ireland primary school championship to be held at the National Aquatic Centre Dublin next year.
A squad of 10 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers attended Dungannon Swimming Club’s 40th Anniversary Gala on Sunday the 9th November at Dungannon Leisure Centre. The gala was a great success for the young swimmers who returned home with numerous personal bests.
Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club held their Autumn Junior Gala on Sunday 26th October, an event aimed at younger swimmers. This was the club’s first Gala in their new temporary base at Omagh Leisure Centre and there was much excitement among the swimmers from the outset with 37 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders taking part. They were joined by competitors from nine other Ulster swimming clubs. For many of the 8-14 year-old competitors, this would be one their first experiences of individual competition, that all important first step for every sportsperson.
11 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club made their way to the Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre in Belfast to compete at Swim Ulster's Aspiring Champions Meet; the first Gala of the season for swimmers aged 13 and over. The event was held over two days, 18th & 19th October. Coaches across Ulster use this gala to assess and monitor swimmers' skills, providing the scaffolding for the building blocks for success in the coming season.
All the work so far on skills and technique resulted in a slew of Swim Ulster Awards, personal bests and many top ten finishes for the Enniskillen Lakelanders.
