Banbridge Open Long Course Meet took place in Craigavon’s South Lakes leisure on Saturday the 11th of June. A squad of 13 Lakelanders’ swimmers, along with Head Coach Ben Wiffen, made their way to the fabulous South Lakes Leisure Centre long course (50m) swimming pool for the final club meet of the season. This meet provided the final opportunity for competitive swimmers to qualify for Swim Ireland's Irish Summer National competitions. As a bonus Banbridge swimming club had extended their invitation to clubs from all over Ireland. The chance to achieve qualifying times and compete against the best in Ireland was too good to miss.

As temperatures rose across the Jubilee Bank holiday weekend a squad of 10 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders made the trip to Aurora Leisure Complex for the aptly named ‘Bangor Summer Sizzler’ Meet. Joining competitors from 38 clubs the Enniskillen swimmers approached the two-day meet with great confidence with Division 1 and 2 Summer National times in their sights.

Saturday 28th of May was a big day for Enniskillen Lakelanders; a fundraising bake sale on the Diamond in the morning followed in the evening by the final round of the Aquasprint league hosted at home in the Lakeland Forum.

Congratulations to our Masters swimmers who were successful at a few recent events.

Round Two of the Aquasprint league for the Enniskillen Lakelanders took place on Saturday 14th May away to Sliabh Beagh Swimming Club at Coral Leisure Centre in Monaghan. 40 of our younger swimmers born between 2014 and 2009 took to the pool. With both teams having won their first round Lakelanders knew this would be a tough battle. Sliabh Beigh had always been a division ahead of Lakelanders however they knew they had a battle on their hands.

A squad of ten Enniskillen Lakelanders attended the Jack Beattie Memorial Open Meet on Sunday 15th of May in Lagan Valley Leisureplex in Lisburn.  The gala was another successful outing for the club with a total of 29 Personal Bests (PBs) achieved.

A squad of 9 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders attended last weekends Ulster Age Group and Senior LC Championships at the Bangor Aurora Leisure Complex. Taking place over three days the meet was split into three sessions each day, morning sessions for swimmers age 15 and over, mid-day session for 12-14 year old swimmers followed by a Finals session in the evening for both age groups. This is a key meet for the best swimmers in Ulster with tough qualification standards to attend. Competitors from across 30 clubs in Ulster took part targeting Ulster titles, and those all important Summer National and Division 2 qualification times.

Swim Ireland’s Irish Open Swimming Championships got underway last week at the Sport Ireland National Aquatic Centre in Dublin, the first such Championships since 2019. The 5-day event saw almost four hundred swimmers from seventy-four clubs compete for national titles in thirty-four individual events and places on seven Irish National Teams. Two Enniskillen Lakelanders attended the prestigious meet.

Enniskillen Lakelanders swimmer Hayden James travelled to Limerick at Easter to compete at the Connacht Aspiring Champions Gala held at the University of Limerick Sport Arena.

The Aquasprint league, sponsored by Forest Feast, is a starting point for the younger swimmers to compete in all strokes in 25m individual and relay races. Aquasprints are a great opportunity for children to build on what they have been learning in the pool with our coaching team led by Ben and Claire and then add speed to this in a competitive environment.
