Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club held their first fundraising Gala of the season on Sunday 23rd October, with an event aimed at younger swimmers. Joining competitors from the local club were 9 visiting clubs from around the Ulster region. For many of the 8-14-year-old competitors, this would be their first taste of individual competition, that all important first step for every sportsperson.


9 local swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club made their way to the Lagan Valley Leisureplex in Lisburn to compete in Swim Ulster's Aspiring Champions Meet; the first Gala of the season for swimmers aged 13 and over. The event was held over two days, 15th & 16th October. Coaches across Ulster use this gala to assess and monitor swimmers' skills, providing the scaffolding for the building blocks for success in the coming season. All the work so far on skills and technique resulted in decent personal bests and many top ten finishes for the Enniskillen Lakelanders.


Swim Ulster Primary Schools Cup and Championship was held in the Bangor Aurora complex on Saturday 8th October 2022. The last time this championship was held was in 2019 before Covid took hold and halted life as our children knew it. Excited for this opportunity to compete again, 17 swimmers across 7 Enniskillen schools headed to Bangor, determined to do the Southwest proud and qualify for the All-Ireland Championships held in Dublin in March. Although a school competition, all the students attending are committed members of the Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club and mustered all their skills and training in competing against the best swimmers from schools across Ulster. A successful day saw 2 podium finishes and 5 swimmers qualify for the All-Ireland primary school championship in March 2023.


On Saturday 1st October 18 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club made their way to the beautiful facilities at the South Lakes Leisure Centre in Craigavon for the first of Swim Ulster’s Future Challengers’ Series of Galas. This was the younger Lakelanders’ first swimming competition of the season and they relished the opportunity, returning with great memories and a slew of new personal best swims (PBs).


Swim Ireland's 2022 Irish Summer National Championships got underway on Wednesday 20th July 2022 at the Sport Ireland National Aquatic Centre, Dublin. The five-day event saw 865 swimmers from over 100 clubs compete from all over Ireland to as far afield as Dubai. The path to nationals is paved by hundreds of hours of pool and land training so to qualify for this prestigious competition is a huge achievement for all swimmers. With this being the first National Championships since 2019 there was high excitement and some nerves among the eight Enniskillen Lakelanders who had qualified. Nonetheless in the experienced hands of head coach Ben Wiffen, the Lakelanders did not fail to impress, bringing home two golds, two silvers and a bronze medal and multiple PBs back to their club.


As temperatures were rising across the country last week, 4 Enniskillen Lakelanders made the trip to Limerick for Swim Irelands Summer National Division 2 Competition. Joining 770 swimmers from 98 clubs the 5-day meet took place at the University of Limerick Sports Arena. This was the first Summer National event since 2019 and there was a great buzz around the venue creating a fantastic atmosphere for competitors and coaches alike.


With the 2021/2022 swimming season coming to an end, the finale for the competitive swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders is the Irish Summer National competitions. These competitions will take place across two meets in July with Irish National Division 2 taking place in Limerick, followed by Irish Summer Nationals in Dublin. Summer National competitions last took place in 2019 so there is great excitement among the 13 local swimmers who have qualified to compete at these events.


The Swim Ulster Festival took place at Lagan Valley Leisureplex in Lisburn on Sunday the 26th of June. This meet was open to all Ulster junior swimmers over the age of 10 who are not yet eligible for the Irish Summer National competitions. Considered one of the most fun galas on the competition calendar, it also gave 8 of our Enniskillen Lakelanders a final opportunity to compete while testing the race skills they’ve developed over the season. The swimmers showed off their talent and were rewarded in abundance with a great deal of PBs and medals.


Enniskillen Lakelanders held their End of Year Event on the 18th June at the Share Centre, Lisnaskea. This was a new adventure for the Club who in previous years have held an End of Year End Gala for members.


Enniskillen Lakelanders travelled to Omagh Leisure Complex on the 10th June to take part in the Forest Feast Aquasprint A final. Forty five very excited children arrived in Omagh at 6pm , all hoping to swim their way to Division 3 for the very first time. Enniskillen Aquasprint team had earned their place in the A Final having achieved three wins out of three in the league.
