
As Swim Ireland look forward to Olympic year 2020, their final major event of 2019 is the Irish Short Course Swimming Championships. Held over 4 days at the NAC in Dublin, the event saw 35 Irish records broken and confirms the resurgence of Irish Swimming. Enniskillen Lakelanders represented Fermanagh sending 6 local athletes to participate in this prestigious national event and as per expectations they didn't disappoint, returning with many personal bests swims and club records but more importantly high hopes for the rest of the season ahead building to the Irish Long Course final in July 2020.
The Swim Ireland designated 'Pathway' for improvement starts with Development Galas and represents the first step on the ladder for any swimmer who wants to progress on a competitive level. 4 Development events are held throughout the annual swimming season and on Sunday 1st December ten young swimmers from the Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club travelled to Armagh, to compete in the second of Swim Ulster’s Development Galas of the 2019/20 season. The Lakelanders swimmers were enthusiastic to try their best in their swims, aiming for PBs and perhaps even some qualifying times in their chosen strokes and distances to help them progress to the next level.
The Swim Ulster Regional Short Course Championships recently took place at the Lagan Valley LeisurePlex with more than 1000 entries across three days. Enniskillen Lakelanders sent 12 of their top swimmers with some familiar names and a few competing at this level for the first time. As usual the Fermanagh swimmers did not disappoint, returning with over 30 personal best swims (PBs), 3 individual Ulster Junior titles & 2 Ulster Junior Relay Titles plus many Irish SC qualifying times and club records.
Swim Ulster have awarded Club of the Year and Junior Development Coach of the Year to Enniskillen Lakelanders and Juniors Coach Claire Morris.
Last Sunday 3rd November, Fermanagh Lakeland Forum was the venue for the Enniskillen Lakelanders Autumn Gala 2019. The event hosted 17 clubs from across the Ulster region and saw 200 swimmers come together for more than 700 individual races.
With the Irish swimming season now in full swing, the first Ulster Regional Qualifying Gala for 2019/20 took place last weekend at Lagan Valley Leisureplex. 18 local swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club made the journey to Lisburn with some familiar faces and some new potential stars attending a Regional Qualifying meet for the 1st time.
Eleven swimmers from the Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club travelled to Omagh Leisure Centre on Sunday the 6th of October to compete in the first of the Swim Ulster Development Galas of the season. The first session began with warm up at 8am and the Lakelander swimmers were enthusiastic to try their best in their swims, aiming for PBs in their chosen strokes and distances.
The Irish Swimming season runs from September to July each year and the local swimming club, Enniskillen Lakelanders are back in the pool training for this year's upcoming events. So whilst the Rugby World Cup was kicking off on the other side of the world, 18 young Lakelanders swimmers headed to Omagh Leisure Centre on Saturday 21st September for their first competitive meet of the 2019/20 season.
Up to 250 club members and general public turned up to Castlecoole country park on Friday 6th September for what turned out to be a perfect evenings running in dry conditions. Everyone headed back to the Lavender Rooms Cafe after the event for some well deserved refreshments and to hear the results.
Following the recent Irish Golfing upset in Portrush and whilst many Irish athletes travelled to the European Youth Olympics in Baku, 12 Local swimmers geared up for the Irish Summer National Finals at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin. Attended by 993 swimmers from 126 national and International clubs, this 5 day event is the climax of the national age group, swimming calendar. Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club sent an unprecedented 12 local swimmers to the event and they didn’t disappoint, returning with many Irish titles, medals and personal best swims, small wonder that the county of Lakes and waterways should produce this many home grown aquatic stars...just under 10% of all club members.

A squad of 20 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders ASC made a big splash at the Swim Belfast Invitational 2026, held at Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre, Belfast, on Sunday 7th June, delivering a series of outstanding performances against strong competition.
The Lakelanders rose to the occasion in style, returning home with an impressive haul of medals and personal bests (PBs), highlighting the hard work, determination, and commitment of these talented young athletes.
Banbridge Open Long Course Meet took place in Craigavon’s South Lakes Leisure Centre on Saturday the 6th of June.
A squad of 11 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers, along with Head Coach Fionna Orr, made their way to the fabulous South Lakes Leisure Centre long course (50m) swimming pool for the final club meet of the season for the older swimmers. This meet provided the final opportunity for competitive swimmers to qualify for Swim Ireland's Irish Summer National competitions. As a bonus Banbridge swimming club had extended their invitation to clubs from all over Ireland. The chance to achieve qualifying times and compete against the best in Ireland was too good to miss.
A squad of 9 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club attended the Ulster Age Group and Senior LC Championships at the Bangor Aurora Leisure Complex on 1st, 2nd & 3rd May. Competitors from across 32 clubs in Ulster met the tough qualification standards to take part in this key meet over three days, targeting Ulster podium spots, and those important Summer National qualification times.
Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club held their Spring Junior Gala on Sunday 26th April, an event aimed at younger swimmers. As the Lakelanders approach the first year complete at their temporary base at Omagh Leisure Centre and there was much excitement among the swimmers from the outset with 41 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders taking part. They were joined by competitors from eleven other Ulster swimming clubs. For many of the 8-14 year-old competitors, this would be one their first experiences of individual competition, that all important first step for every sportsperson.
Portadown ASC and Lurgan ASC hosted the South Lake Open Meet 2026 at South Lake Leisure Centre, Craigavon on Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th April. A total of 26 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers competed over the two day meet.
Saturday morning saw fantastic swimming by 11 of our younger athletes competing in a range of 25m races in the short course format. Many PBs were smashed with the young Lakelanders doing their club proud in the pool.
On Saturday 21st March, a group of 14 young swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club took part in Round 4 of the Swim Ulster Future Challengers Series, held at Lagan Valley Leisureplex in Lisburn. The competition drew over 450 swimmers between the ages of 10 and 14 from across Ulster.
Participants competed in a range of more demanding events, including Individual Medley (IM), Breaststroke, and Freestyle. The Lakelanders swimmers performed with determination throughout the meet, embracing the challenge of competing against a high standard of provincial opposition while striving to achieve personal best times.
11 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers travelled to the Aurora Aquatic & Leisure Complex, Bangor to compete in Round 2 of Swim Ulster’s ‘Aspiring Champions’ Meet Series on 14th & 15th March. This spectacular 50m pool was the perfect venue for the many challenging events the Fermanagh swimmers were eager to dive into over the weekend.
A squad of 33 Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers attended the Swim Belfast Open Meet on Sunday the 15th of February in Lagan Valley Leisureplex, Lisburn. The gala was a great success for the Fermanagh swimmers who relished the opportunity to compete against swimmers from clubs across Ulster, Leinster & Connacht, returned home with numerous medals and personal best times.
