On Saturday 29th February, 9 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders made their way to The Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre in Belfast for the 4th Swim Ulster Development Meet of the season. These galas are aimed primarily at swimmers who are at Level 3 on their competitive journey in the world of swim competitions, where swimmers aim to gain qualification times to progress to the next level of provincial events. The young Lakelanders did not disappoint, returning with good memories, medals and most importantly a slew of new personal best swims (PBs).


A squad of 9 swimmers from the Enniskillen Lakelanders club took part in the prestigious Swim Ireland Dave Mc Cullagh International meet in Bangor Aurora last weekend. This meet was a great opportunity for everyone to test their racing skills against the best in Ireland and a large contingent of top international stars from GB also tuning-up for the Olympics later this year


Eight of Enniskillen Lakelanders’ developing swimmers attended the morning Level 1 session at Templemore Minor Open Meet held at Lagan Valley Leisureplex on Sunday 16th February. A Level 3 competition followed in the later part of the morning and on into the afternoon, with thirteen Lakelander swimmers participating.


22 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders recently made the trip to Bangor Aurora Leisure Centre for the first Swim Ulster Qualifying Gala of 2020. This 2 day event is one of an annual series that gives athletes the opportunity to attain qualifying times to compete in the Irish National Div 1 & 2 finals held in July every year. The young Lakelanders put in sterling performances coming back with medals, PB’s and numerous qualifying times for the July finals, as they competed against the best in Ulster.


The 1st event of the year for Enniskillen Lakelanders in the Aquasprint Junior league, took place on Saturday 25th January against Armagh in the Orchard Leisure Centre. 42 swimmers born between 2012 and 2008 took to the pool. There was lots of excitement especially for thirteen swimmers who had never swum in a competitive gala previously.


On Sunday 26th of January, 11 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders made their way to Newry for the 3rd Swim Ulster Development Meet of the season. The event held in the Newry Leisure Centre, is aimed primarily at younger swimmers just starting out on their competitive journey in the world of swim competitions, where swimmers aim to gain qualification times to progress to the next level of regional events. The young Lakelanders did not disappoint, returning with good memories, medals and most importantly a slew of new personal best swims (PBs).


Last weekend 21 Fermanagh swimmers from the Enniskillen Lakelanders made their way to the Bangor Open Winter Festival, the first Long Course Gala of 2020. Held over 2 days in the 50m pool at the Aurora leisure Centre, the event saw the Lakelanders perform well with 9 Gold, 8 Silver and 12 Bronze medals returning to Fermanagh, alongside 67 PB’s, and numerous qualifying times for upcoming events.


As Swim Ireland look forward to Olympic year 2020, their final major event of 2019 is the Irish Short Course Swimming Championships. Held over 4 days at the NAC in Dublin, the event saw 35 Irish records broken and confirms the resurgence of Irish Swimming. Enniskillen Lakelanders represented Fermanagh sending 6 local athletes to participate in this prestigious national event and as per expectations they didn't disappoint, returning with many personal bests swims and club records but more importantly high hopes for the rest of the season ahead building to the Irish Long Course final in July 2020.


The Swim Ireland designated 'Pathway' for improvement starts with Development Galas and represents the first step on the ladder for any swimmer who wants to progress on a competitive level. 4 Development events are held throughout the annual swimming season and on Sunday 1st December ten young swimmers from the Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club travelled to Armagh, to compete in the second of Swim Ulster’s Development Galas of the 2019/20 season. The Lakelanders swimmers were enthusiastic to try their best in their swims, aiming for PBs and perhaps even some qualifying times in their chosen strokes and distances to help them progress to the next level.


The Swim Ulster Regional Short Course Championships recently took place at the Lagan Valley LeisurePlex with more than 1000 entries across three days. Enniskillen Lakelanders sent 12 of their top swimmers with some familiar names and a few competing at this level for the first time. As usual the Fermanagh swimmers did not disappoint, returning with over 30 personal best swims (PBs), 3 individual Ulster Junior titles & 2 Ulster Junior Relay Titles plus many Irish SC qualifying times and club records.
