
Lakelanders swimmers ensure Fermanagh Schools lead the way at USSA Schools Champ 02 Feb 2025
14 Fermanagh swimmers represented their respective schools at the USSA Ulster Schools Championships held at the Ards Blair Mayne Leisure Centre in Newtownards on Saturday 1st February. This gala was aimed at swimmers in Key Stages 3 & 4 and three local post-primary schools were well represented by Enniskillen Lakelanders club members among the competitors.
Lakelanders Trio Shine at Winter Nationals in Dublin 15 Dec 2024
Swim Ireland’s Irish Winter Championships got underway at the Sport Ireland National Aquatic Centre at the weekend with over five hundred swimmers from seventy-seven clubs competing in the final national meet of 2024. Three athletes from Enniskillen Lakelanders were excited to participate in this prestigious event and as per expectations they didn't disappoint, returning with personal best swims and high hopes for the long course season ahead building to the Irish Long Course finals in July 2025.
Lakelanders Light up the Pool in Omagh 08 Dec 2024
On Saturday 8th December 16 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club made their way to the beautiful facilities at Omagh Leisure Centre for the second of Swim Ulster’s ‘Future Challengers’ Series of Galas. This Gala series is for swimmers aged 10-14 and our young Lakelanders relished the opportunity for new PBs and a fun morning of competitive swimming.

Lakelanders Lead the Way at Ulster Short Course Championships 18 Nov 2024
Three swimmers from the Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club competed at the Ulster Short Course Championships held at Lagan Valley Leisureplex at the weekend. With 26 clubs and over 235 swimmers the girls were eager to compete with the best in the province.
Enniskillen Lakelanders Host Autumn Junior Gala 10 Nov 2024
Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club held their Autumn Junior Gala on Sunday 10th November, an event aimed at younger swimmers. With the knowledge that this could be their last home gala at the Lakeland Forum all the swimmers were excited from the outset with 55 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders taking part. They were joined by competitors from six other Ulster swimming clubs. For many of the 8-13 year-old competitors, this would be one their first experiences of individual competition, that all important first step for every sportsperson. Swim Ireland referee Lars Beheme oversaw almost 700 entries from the 170 excited swimmers in attendance. Lars was supported by a strong group of over 50 parents and older swimmers volunteering from the Lakelanders club which helped ensure that the busy gala ran smoothly. It was a very successful event for the Lakelanders, raising much needed club funds and giving swimmers the chance to put their training into practise and show off their talents with a large haul of medals and an abundance of PBs on the day.
Lakelanders secure medal haul in Belfast 20 Oct 2024
12 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders swimming club made their way to the Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre in Belfast to compete at Swim Ulster's Aspiring Champions Meet; the first Gala of the season for swimmers aged 13 and over. The event was held over two days, 19th & 20th October. Coaches across Ulster use this gala to assess and monitor swimmers' skills, providing the scaffolding for the building blocks for success in the coming season. All the work so far on skills and technique resulted in a slew of medals, personal bests and many top ten finishes for the Enniskillen Lakelanders.
Lakelanders Masters Swimmer Jenny does us proud at Ironman World Championship 20 Oct 2024
The Vinfast IRONMAN World Championships are a culmination of 40 worldwide IRONMAN events where over 94,000 athletes (20% women) compete for qualifying slots. I was lucky enough to be one of the 1,400 athletes who qualified for the Women’s 2024 event on Sunday 22nd September. This was hosted in Nice for the first time to facilitate dedicated men’s and women’s events, alternating year about with racing in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. Nine other athletes travelled from Ireland to take part and, meeting up with them at registration, none of us could really quite believe that we were going to be able to race in a place like this!
Cracking Swimming in Craigavon! 13 Oct 2024
On Sunday 13th October 14 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club made their way to the beautiful facilities at the South Lakes Leisure Centre in Craigavon for the first of Swim Ulster’s Future Challengers’ Series of Galas. This was the younger Lakelanders’ first swimming competition of the season and they relished the opportunity, returning with several medals and a slew of new personal best times (PBs).
Enniskillen Lakelanders’ Shine at Nationals in Dublin 28 Jul 2024
Swim Ireland's new look 2024 Irish Youth and Senior Summer National Championships took place at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin from Tuesday 22nd to Saturday 27th July 2024 at the Sport Ireland National Aquatic Centre, Dublin. The five-day event saw 1125 swimmers from over 120 clubs compete from all over Ireland to as far afield as Dubai. The path to nationals is paved by hundreds of hours of pool and land training so to qualify for this prestigious competition is a huge achievement for all swimmers. There was high excitement and some nerves among the five Enniskillen Lakelanders who had qualified. Nonetheless in the experienced hands of Head Coach Ben Wiffen, the team brought home several medals, certificates and PBs back to their club.
