With the World Short Course Championships taking place in Abu Dhabi, the Irish Short Course Championships at Dublin's Sport Ireland National Aquatic Centre, provided the opportunity for some of Ireland’s younger athletes to take centre stage last week in Dublin. Under the watchful eye of Coach Sinead Donagher, the return to National competition did not disappoint for the Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers attending the three-day meet - Dara Ronan (17) and Cora Rooney (16). With increasing Covid restrictions, spectators were not permitted at this event. Swim Ireland broadcast the events live from the NAC and many Lakelanders swimmers watched the action online, cheering for their friends and teammates virtually.

A busy weekend for the Enniskillen Lakelanders saw 10 swimmers compete in two events. The Sliabh Beagh Christmas Cluster Meet took place across two days at the Coral Leisure Centre in Monaghan and the Lisburn Christmas Meet took place on Sunday 12th December 2021 in the Lagan Valley Leisureplex.

On Sunday 5th December 8 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club made their way to the beautiful facilities at the South Lakes Leisure Centre in Craigavon for the second of Swim Ulster’s ‘Future Challengers’ Series of Galas. This Gala series is for swimmers aged 10-12 and our young Lakelanders relished the opportunity for new PBs and a fun afternoon of competitive swimming.

01 Dec 2021

Following our recent AGM, we introduce our 2021/2022 committee.

Last weekend saw 7 swimmers from the Enniskillen Lakelanders compete in the Ulster Short-Course Championships held at Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre, Belfast. The local swimmers approached this event with excitement, not least because it was the first major regional competition since lockdown but also because many were aiming to impress new Lakelanders Head Coach, Ben Wiffen across 41 individual events and 3 Relays.

13 local swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders recently competed in the first of Swim Ulster’s ‘Aspiring Champions’ Meet Series held at the Lagan Valley Leisureplex, Lisburn. This new meet series from Swim Ireland places a renewed focus on team performance as well as individual achievement and for many of the Lakelanders’, this was their first competitive outing in 20 months. So spirits were high as they left a foggy Fermanagh early on Saturday morning for the 2 day event.

Sunday 10th October 16 swimmers from Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club made their way to the beautiful facilities at the South Lakes Leisure Centre in Craigavon for the first of Swim Ulster’s Future Challengers’ Series of Galas. This was the younger Lakelanders’ first swimming competition in around 20 months and they relished the opportunity, returning with great memories and a slew of new personal best swims (PBs).

We invite all members to attend training on Thursday 30th , Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd October for the Autumn 2021 Time Trials. For experienced members it's a chance to check your progress ahead of some upcoming regional galas. And for beginners, now is a great time to register some times for your profile so you can begin to see your progress as you train. All times will be recorded on members SCM profiles.

Local swimmers from the Enniskillen Lakelanders recently competed in National and Regional swim competitions, some for the first time since the Covid crisies hit. 21st -23rd July saw 3 local swimmers line out in Bangor for the Swim Ireland Summer Nationals event, with Ellie Mc Cartney, Dara Ronan and Cora Rooney flying the flag for the Lakelanders. Then one week later on Sat 31st July, Hayden James, Hannah Lynch and Ellie Dunlop competed in the Swim Ulster Swim Festival held at the new South Lakes Leisure Centre, Craigavon.

Enniskillen Lakelanders Swimming Club continued their series of Junior swimming events last Sunday 29th September when local Fermanagh athletes were joined by swimmers from 9 different Ulster clubs for the Lakelanders 1st competitive Gala event of the 2019/20 swimming season. Indeed for many of the 7-12 yr olds taking part, this would be their first competitive swimming event ever. The emphasis for these events is about showing beginners and younger swimmers the fun of competing in a swimming gala in a safe and friendly environment and the Lakelanders were grateful for the support received from Fermanagh & Omagh Council to help make the event possible.
